I had another look at the new race seat designs on this link and am surprised Playseat opted for a centre post design.
For anyone thinking of a seat designed this way, my current "interim" seat for the GT2 wheel is basically the same style and I find the centre post does get in the way a bit when operating the clubsport 3 pedal system -especially when trying to heel and toe. I don't think it'd be a problem for a 2 pedal system. My permanent rig won't have a centrepost.

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
I've had the Fanatec for a while too. It's awesome quality and while is great that it doesn't do all the random disconnecting/button pushing the old MS wheel did, I'm a little dissapointed that I haven't noticed any difference in laptimes. In fact, I don't think I've done a PB on any leaderboards since getting it.
It's also a tad annoying having to constantly reverse the gear shifters to suit the sequential shifter then having to change it back when you need to use the flappy paddles. (Usually I only remember this after I've started the race and I slam it into reverse taking out half the field... )
That's enough complaining I guess, These are the settings I'm using:
Wheel
Sen - 430
FF - 40
Sho - 90
dri - 002
Abs - 90
Lin - 30
dEA - 000
SPr - 0
dPr - 0
Game
Steering deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 100
Accel deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 90 (-0 -60 when using a prototype with TCS)
Dec deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 80
Clutch IN -0 OUT - 70
Vibration - 100
FF - 100
If had known what I know now and with the price it was... I doubt I would have gotten it. That's just me though. I'm not having a go at the wheel, I think it's an amazing bit of kit but yeah, I guess it's not quite what I expected.

I understand where you're coming from Jester, I've had similar. But I won't say I'm disappointed with my results since getting the GT2. Accepting that it'd take some time to get used to the different feel and controls after 2 years using the M$ wheel and pedals and having to take a hit on results while I work my way through that. I think the improvements will come from better steering and brake feel which will help me improve my control of the car. For me the foot clutch is still a weak point after the button on the old wheel.
As for wheel set up, there's so much option for different wheel and game settings its hard to know how someone elses rig works.
My wheel settings are :
Sen - 300
FF - 70
Sho - 100
dri - 001
Abs - 80
Lin - 0
dEA - 000
SPr - 0
dPr - 0
CS brake pedal set to minimum pressure
Game:
Steering deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 100
Accel deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 95
Dec deadzone IN - 0 OUT - 95
Clutch IN -50 OUT - 50
Vibration - 100
FF - 55-60
I find thats giving good feel without the steering being too heavy, the steering rotation close to the old M$ wheel helped a lot. But I think I'll still be tweaking it for a while yet.
EDIT: As for the sequential shifter, I have the same issue with it. Having to reverse the game shift settings and then using the paddles (Noooooo) is just wrong. I'm staying with using the paddles for now. But am looking at mounting the sequential backward or have a look inside and switch the wiring/contacts. Don't know if either of those options is any good for you?

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
I guess "dissapointed" wasn't really the right word. All I really heard from people before was stuff like "Omg Dude, the GT2 is like 5 seconds quicker than the MS wheel!!!" So to get it and basically do the exact same laptimes was... interesting.
One big thing for me though is with the MS wheel, I had to use 200% braking pressure. I couldn't drive any car with out it and not having a clue on how to tune not being able to use SF tunes made life a bit tricky. I'm now down to around 120% - 130% and can use the brake pedal proportionally rather than the "on/off" switch it was like with the MS wheel.
The look left and look right button on the wheel are an absolute godsend too. It was something I really missed when I went from the controller to the wheel.
Yeah, I thought about using the foot clutch with the paddles but not only does it feel weird, it's nowhere near as fun as using the sequential shifter. Driving one handed leads to more accidents and mistakes but I paid $800 for the damn clutch and shifter thing I'm going to use it. Only use the flappy paddles for the prototypes so it's not a massive pain, just a slight one every now and then.
I spose when I really think about it it was worth the money... I don't know... each to their own I guess.

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
i struggled for top 100 times with the MS wheel but can do resonably well with the fanatec these days, i need to do more hotlapping tho to show it, done well on maple and sedona so far
as for the shifter's, i've kind of found them a pain to use for FM3, especially on launch its very slow but catching up again dont seem a problem but generally they have been shelved, and because it feels like im gonna break them, tho you do have to use H pattern shifter to even use the clutch in GT5
mainly clutch and paddles seem the way to go for anything below A class, above that i dont really use clutch, to slow for the faster cars
setting's
sen's 360 sometimes using 540 or 720, depends sometimes on type of car/class
FF 80
sho 100
drift 0
ABS 80
lin 0
dea 0
spr 0
dpr 2- i like the heavier feel to the steering
EDIT: ive taken the lil blocks from behind acc and clutch pedals so they sit flat on the main bar, note put blocks behind the bar to tighten back up

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
Let's not forget that the old M$ wheel and the controller both have drivers designed by turn 10 or ms for FM3, the fanatec dons't. Yet!
I am expecting with the release of FM4 and with the inclusion of 2 FM4 fanatec wheels to the lineup to see better software support and hence better drivability in the game.
Like all things, time will tell...

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
The M$ wheel was designed for FM2 wasn't it (I think I bought it bundled) - FM3 was all about the Fanatec PWTS. In fact that's what they displayed with at E3 2009

Re: Fanatec Game Gear
I was talking to hess today & he said FM4 wheels [CRS] are a long way of getting here & cost wood be alot more expensive than GT2 wheel, due to importing into aus. So don`t hold your breath & i hope you have a very healthy bank balance, that`s even if he gets them at all. Unless somebody else is getting them, cheeper & quicker. Good luck with that, if that`s the way you were thinking. Cheers, drinkup & see you on the road.

could have been, its just my uneducated comment
Im assuming that fanatec has been supported in FM3, maybe in the way of a firmware chip and emulation to use the m$ wheel drivers, but based on the current comments about lack of "reversing" switch for the sequ shifter, the non-support for SPr & DPr "only noticeable in PS3 made" (quote from fanatec manual). I assume the wheel not fully supported in FM3.
After I read the article about the new Club-handbrake,
Fanatec announced in the GTPlanet forums: “We managed to convince Microsoft that the handbrake is now a standard feature implemented into the console so it is easy to support and we will send samples to all relevant publishers." I again assume that better driver support will be in FM4.
my fuzzy logic suggests that controller support in FM4 needs to be better because now turn10 are putting their name "FM4" on the wheel, and nobody is going to be happy if you can race an old m$ wheel faster than a new $$$$ fanatec one!
