not just hosting games, uploads have an effect on racing as well. if you cant upload fast enough, this is what causes lag because the game doesnt know where your car is and goes crazy.

Ping = lag to
The higher the ping the longer it takes the info (ie your car) to be sent to whoever else your playing with. It's more critical when playing FPS games though.

Wierd,,ping test says one result then the speed test gives a different ping result.I dont know much about it though.
This seems odd cuz last night when i ran the test i was getting a ping of 213.I was too embarrassed to post it
Im minding a friends house atm and using his wireless internet (unwired)
Its no wonder i can barely here what peeps are saying and everyone was jumping around all over the track in last nights state of origin races.

Yeah, wireless net isn't good for gaming, it works but lag can be a b1tch.
A 60 ping difference between the 2 tests isn't too bad, one is testing to Sydney, the other testing to Canberra, so that would change it a bit. Strange that you're in Syd and you get a better ping to Canberra???

mcrow5, i dont think your talking about the same thingmcrow5 wrote:it depends on your router really, mine just holds up for the wireless.Stumbles wrote:Yeah, wireless net isn't good for gaming, it works but lag can be a b1tch.
If your router has a telephone cable that plugs into the wall, you've got wired internet
(which you share around your home via the router that provides a wireless Local Area Network, not wireless internet)
[Or you paid Telstra off somehow AND are living right under a cell phone tower, to be the only person in australia getting the theoretical max speeds from Telstras Liberty Wireless Internet plans. ]
Most Wireless internet plans, like what Unwired offer, use 3G/HSPA which is the same internet smartphones use.
(Unwired even limit the speed to 1024/256, while the rest of us wired people get averagely 8000/1024)
Wireless is fine for checking emails, and reading websites, but currently its just not fast enough for 'high speed gaming', such as racing and shooting games.

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
Yup Puttz, that's pretty suckful. Upload speed isn't very good at all. Are you on ADSL 1, ADSL 2+ or wireless. I didn't ask about cable because theres no way it would be that low.
Also, what model modem (if using ADSL), might be able to check your settings and squeeze a bit more out of it.
Probably easier to catch up over xbox live and talk through it.

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
Can you go into the GUI of the modem and give me some of the details on the Summary page.
To access the Web-based configuration manager, launch your
Web browser and enter the LAN IP address of the MT882. For the
first access, the default LAN IP address of the MT882 is used. Type
in “http://” followed by the default IP address, “192.168.1.1”
A new dialog box appears prompting you to input the user name
and password required to access the Web-based configuration
manager.
Use the default user name admin and password admin for first
setup. (That's if you haven't changed the username and password).
Can you get the numbers for Link Speed (both upstream and downstream).
Also want SNR values (both upstream and downstream) and Attenuation values (both upstream and downstream).
Thats a start.
