Have the opportunity to get the NBN of all places they set it up in the northern suburbs of hobart first??? Had a bit of a read and although its super-fast, because its goverment monitored (for now) theres alot of blocks in place to stop people using programs like uTorrent and other P2P clients.Terrorsidic wrote:Can't wait till we have people hosting from an NBN connection.

That should've stopped now that its been released commercially, unless your area is still on the trail period.

Still on trial here as far as i know. My ISP being iinet (netspace) are starting to roll out the NBN offers but they dont have the ports for it down here. Havent really checked of late but i think bigpond will/is the only one in my area that i would be able to get the NBN through, and to be quite honest paying their prices when im on 200gb a month on adsl2+ with a home phone for $50.

Wilson - that should still be fine for hosting.
I host pretty often:
Toydrift - that is mental! I used to have a 10Mb connection which was fast, but 62 is crazy!

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
The lowest ping guys would the the best hosts as this is what would affect the performance the most, the download speed doesn't really matter, 3Mbps or higher is plenty. Coming from the guy in the telecommunications. LOL
"Toydrift", got NBN or Photoshop?

I really cant claim to know too much about anything associated with the net but i know i pay through the teeth for my 100mbps connection from Telstra which as you can see translates to 60-65mbps most days of the week .. I also have a seperate ADSL for my wifes kids so my cable is all for Forza =) .. I did read earlier in this thread that its the upload speed thats important for hosting ..
Whats NBN ?? and no i just have a little notebook laptop thingy .. So no photoshop ..

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
If it hasn't already been said, pointless thread is pointless... it all depends on your connection technology, and in the most common case of ADSL/ADSL2+ it's the distance from your exchange, the gauge of your copper lines, whether the line has any "bridge taps" (cut & shut/bypass repair points), the line profile applied to your service - sometimes never gets changed off the "initial" stability profile, and how good or how old the modem is (my parents service went from 13 to 18Mbps on ADSL2+ for changing from a 6 year old modem to a new one)...
About the only thing you can't control is congestion on your exchange, which is something Telstra and TPG customers can often find out the hard way, or if your service is supplied through Telstra wholesale.
I'm with Adam on ADSL2+ and work for a different ISP, so I'll be changing my service to them because it's free.

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
From my laptop connected wireless. Everything else is connected by the huge lengths of Ethernet cable running around the skirting and over the doors in every room of my small unit linking up 3 XBox's and desktop with laptop, tBox and at times 2 iPads all wireless.
She ain't the fastest but it does the job.
Then again it looks pretty sad up against the speeds you guys have...

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
Lol yeah thats what I was on also when I had ADSL2+ the past few months. As soon as I knew that I could get cable I cancelled the ADSL and switch. Took them 28 days to install it but happy now they did it yesterday.
I have a Xbox, PS3, Gaming PC, iPhone, 3 x Smart Phones, 2 x Laptops and an iPad 2. Gaming PC is on a 30m ethernet cable. Would love to see the speed with it alone and a short cable.
