Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
Internode are fantastic IMO, as good service as Telstra at a better price, they have 3 times as many Servers (PC GAMING) as bigpond host. So i dont use any of my DL limit to play online and i can download all my updates and demos from them
All games i play online CSS, COD,BF2, all run without lag around 20-60 latency which is very smooth.
i dont really play XB games because i like to play FPS games with a keyboard and mouse, but as for racing there is no other choice than the trusty 360 and forza.
I have heard ADSL+2 is bad for PC gaming, apparently it isnt as smooth so i have stuck with the old 1.5mbps even though its the same price to have +2
Though i must say downloading sucks at 162kbps.
I was with Telstra but they really are too expensive, i was on 60 bucks a month for 12gb now with internode i get 20GB for the same price at the same quality of service as i said before i could go 2 +2 for the same price match that stupid greedy Bigpond. Also the amount Telstra offer to take off with the homephone bundle is a scam, your better off going for the cheapest line you can if you dont make any calls on it, (or get naked, ADSL that is)
are you on cable manic? cos dats some fast internet.

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
I'm only 1500/256k Bigpond plan so I probably won't be hosting our event nights but check out something interesting about Bigpond (& Internode I guess, as I noticed Acerlyte's ping is the same as mine)
Stupid Bigpond traffic all goes through Sydney for some reason, hence 42ms ping to a local server grrrrrrr check it out the above ping & speed is to a local server in Brisbane (where i am) ...........
And this is to Sydney (you would think the ping would change a fair bit, but instead...)
Annoying??? SLIGHTLY!!!!!!
Strange Result for the Sydney test too because If I use Ping plotter I get 25ms ping to the Bigpond server in Sydney all day every day, consistant as.....& if I ping to Melbourne etc it just adds on about 10ms as it should.....
On these tests though my ping is being bounced through Sydney, hence the 40-42 ms ping rather than 5-10ms to a local server, its telling me how long my ping takes to travel from here to Sydney then back to my local server, then back to Sydney, then again back to my computer....... & even then you would expect the test to the Sydney server to show up a 25-30ms ping as it doesn't have to do a 2nd round trip to Brisbane but it doesn't show this..... HUH? It completley confuses me....
& Xerocage, I was on 3g Wireless until about a year ago, so I feel your pain... 1500/256 still gets the job done but i'd love cable, which is unfortunately not an option where I live at the moment

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
I'm not going to bother posting mine - I'm only ADSL 1 512/128k. Might be moving house and don't want to upgrade until I know what's going to happen.
I lived in Sweden for six months around 8 years ago. I had a 10mb connection (that's 10mb down AND 10mb up). It cost me 40AUD a month and had no limits or throttles. That's fast, and that was 8 years ago! Sad how slow it is here, but I do recognise there is a slight difference in population density.

Re: What's your internet Speed, (who is the best host for games)
Just ran the test, couldn't be arsed with the pick.
I got 10mB/s down and 1mB/s up... basically half of what it should be at on my current plan, might try again later tonight and get a better speed.
note: this test is bouncing off a server @ Tuggerah with a 55ms ping... i am about ooh 5-600km from there...
