Anyone can make a replay look pretty, it's the gameplay test that sets this apart. I really love helmet cam. Don't know if you guys tried this yet. Its wonderful. So realistic. With a race of any length you get dirt and spots and crap visually represented. Also, loving the way photograph flashes go off in a race. Makes you feel like you're doing the real deal. This makes shift look like last decades game. I really fear for forza five if they get even half the licences.

They have Bathurst and a V8 Supercar to race on it. I'm 50% sold right there with 2 elements. Gaming issues pending, Turn10 are going to have to pull out so many trump cards for me to stay with them.

Make sure you have a killa PC if you wanna run it like this. I'm very interested to see how it runs on the xbox 360. With the PC if I run a hotlap in the dry, I get 70-80 fps but if I run the rain it drops to 28-30 fps.

Pretty sure 30fps is what the xbox 360 currently runs at, a cheap soloution to getting higher fps is to crossfire or sli two cheaper graphics cards, example being two 1gb HD 7770 in cossfire mode gives better performance than a 3GB HD 7950 at more than $100 cheaper while also pushes the GTX 580 and beats it in some test with higher fps and alot less power consumption. Half decent CPU and motherboard to support Crossfire or SLI with 8gb ram job done, cheap and excellent performer pc on single monitor.

Re: Project CARS
Be aware that the Nvidia 700 series cards are probably gonna drop either at the end of the year or the start of the next, so the price of the 600 series cards are gonna drop with that release.
I'd also recommend the Nvidia cards over the AMD's simply due to the fact that Nvidia drivers are so much better than AMD's, and the only game that AMD has a clear advantage in performance over their Nvidia counterparts (excluding TITAN, thats gonna be the absolute best for a very long time) is Metro 2033. You can rattle off 3Dmark stats all you want, but that doesn't always equate into actual game performance.
That said, if the 700 series is substantially better, i'll load off my GTX670 to one of you guys if you haven't found a graphics solution by then.
Also Crimson, surely theres a graphics setting to reduce the quality of the water effects to improve FPS in that situation?

Yes.. you can turn some things down or off and it'll give you a few FPS more but it looks worse and you don't get that much of a boost. The builds change every week FPS jumps, goes down, goes up. It all depends on what they are doing during the week. From what I've read there has been a little optimization but not to the level of a completed game. In most cases I'm getting pretty decent FPS right now. I'm sure the water effects , which look so fantastic, are not optimized. SO far my favorite moment is going across the top of the mountain at dusk with rain making the track nice and shiny and drops moving across the bonnet. Clouds billowing in the distance, hiding most, but not all, of the lit buildings. It's madness but I love it.

Re: Project CARS
pCARS platforms.
I think we should stop work on PS3 and Xbox 360 and use those resources to make a start on the PS4 and Xbox One.
We'd continue with WiiU and of course PC.
Thoughts?

Of course, we may all decide to continue as is. It will go to a poll, it will be your call.

Also working on new stuff is more fun

The engine is designed to be scaled for multiple platforms, which it does, however there is still a fair amount of platform specific code that needs to be maintained and updated. Also regardless of the engine tech each platform represents a large cost to the team, especially during Alpha/Beta/Final periods where platform specific testing, bug fixing, TRCs and submissions need to be handled on a per platform basis.
Doing that across all platforms will be a big hit in terms of cost and dev focus. Technically we can do it, our engine will always be scaleable and it will be required still for WiiU and lower perfomance PCs, however removing two of the low perfomance platforms will free up a chunk of time and cost that can be better spent on polishing and finalising the other platforms and making sure they hit the shelf in a solid state.
Another thing to consider in terms of Forza/GT, they're already working on the new platforms and will have been doing so for a long time now.
They're also obviously only focused on one platform each.
This means we have to be at the top of our game to compete otherwise we're always chasing, having to focus time on two 7 yr old consoles doesn't help us keep up.

The situation may be different with the new consoles: initially the user base will be lower and it would be safe to increase that time, to cover the new users that will hopefully buy the game in a longer period of time. I've talked to Ian about this and, if the plan kicks in, he agreed to extend it to 3 years for the new gen consoles.

You'll always see me stating publicly that platform-wise we play to each's strengths. Whilst Xbox One and PS4 will initially have a smaller installed base, they also have greater strengths in terms of power, functionality, and consumer appeal.
As you've seen, the future is hotting up for racing games with Sony & Microsoft continuing their respective franchises, and titles like DriveClub and NFS: Rivals already making announcements for next-gen.
As you've all been party to, Project CARS has already been a next-gen experience for a while so officially placing it on Xbox One and PS4 would not only align it with the competition better but potentially aid the project on the technical side due to their architecture.

Re: Project CARS
Part of me thinks its a good thing for them to get rid of dev costs for the soon to be obsolete consoles. The other part of me thinks it's a major mistake ignoring the huges market. There will be no more forza on the box. So Pcars could get all those sales. I would imagine lots of guys here would get it if it had Bathurst, v8 Fords, SPA, Brands Hatch, Open wheel racing, as many laps as you want, weather, damage and a details handling system tried and tested by thousands of testers throughout the process.
If it moves to the next box I suspect it will be a me-too title and the sales of Forza will make this title a non event. Not sure about PS4 though. since GT6 will release on the PS3
