and something even better
_MG_4935 by mcrow5, on Flickr
and some others from the night im happy with
_MG_4972 by mcrow5, on Flickr
_MG_4994 by mcrow5, on Flickr
and one that is my first real experiment with very long exposures
_MG_5045 by mcrow5, on Flickr
its a pity, an exposure any longer resulted in too much noise have to go out and take about 3 hours of 30 second exposures and use a program to get the effect i want.

Some great night shots Mcrow. That moon shot is perfect. Can be tricky to get the exposure right for the moon - it's really bright, but surrounded by dark. That's a great one!
And yeah - digital cameras don't do long exposure shots too well - I get my old film camera out for those ones! But yeah - you can take a heap of photos and merge them - still tricky as the noise may mess things up. Take a photo with the lens cap on and use it as a negative to "subtract" the noise from your night shots. I've read that that works, but haven't tried it myself.
Danno - I am soooo jealous. That looks stunning (especially when I'm sitting here shivering in Tasmania). mmm fond memories of dinners on the beach when I was last in Malaysia. Yum!

thanks mate, i found it to be piss easy though. f5.6 (best my current zoom lens has), iso 100, and adjusted the shutter speed until it was the correct exposure. and then heavily crop it in photoshop

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
i can give you the raw (with a watermark), but it is very heavily cropped. the cropped file is only about 1/5 of the original photo's resolution. so it will make it hard to enlarge with a smaller resolution.
and that last one was a "oh shi*, its sunday night and ive got no photo for the week." so i went down to the local park and wanted to try star trails. got bored of waiting, so i did a 30 second exposure, f3.5 at iso100, whilst zooming in and then out again while the shutter was still open.

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
thanks mate, it took forever haha! well, 7 laps.
its actually dad in the car (doing the v8 race experience thing on red balloon), only viewpoint was from on top of the pits so the stupid barrier was in the way. only photo i got with the whole car in focus. its damn hard this panning thing haha!

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
Do you know how many times I have been pissed and gone outside and Crown Towers looks like that to me in real life. That reminds me of a time when I went for a sleep by the Yarra only to be woken by Mr. Plod and his stinken horse.
