Was a great day at the test
Good to see all the new liveries and the brilliant new Volvo. It sounds similar to the old S40 Super Tourer which is just awesome. I love it

I must say, how good would the Volvo sound with a couple extra thousand revs? But it is cool, almost sounds like the new f1 v6-T

Blame the Pushrod motors on that.
All the quadies out there would do it easy, the limiter is only there to prevent the Pushrod motors detonating

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
then why restrict them to 7500?
I know the limiter was introduced to help save engine cost when they locked in th 5.0 rules

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
If the V8 Supercars sounded more like the Z4 GT3 anyone with functioning ears would watch them. Nothing better than a high-revving V8 engine. Not that 7,500 is 'low', just the Volvo sounds sick at 7,500 and would sound like an absolute BEAST at 9,000sempeR wrote:Pushrods will go to 9k and up no probs

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
sounds great!!!
very keen to see how it goes this year, I think the new manufacturers have caught up a little from what ive seen/heard/read.
What was the feeling outta the paddock from you guys who saw the test day?
They on pace?
I know it was raining etc but last year you could see very early they weren't on pace with the likes of Red Bull/FPR etc

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
Nissans were the most outstanding cars on the day. With new aero on the car they certainly showed the pace having all 4 cars in the top 10, both kelly's in 2nd and 3rd. I think FPR have some work to do with their cars. Channel 7 have interviewed Tim Edwards (FPR Team Boss) but hasnt been telecasted yet. I was there atthe interview and I do know that Winterbottom is using a brand new Falcon while Mostert is using winterbottoms 2013 car. Jamie whincup was also well off the pace down the order also along with HRT's Garth Tander. Volvo clearly have some work to do as they are well down the order. One of the volvos had engine drama also and was stopped on th side of the track. I do know that alot of cars didnt use soft tires so im guessing we are going to have to wait until clipsal to find out who really is the benchmark driver.

Power steering issues for the volvo, they had limited parts too but hope to have it sorted by clipsal.

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
well as long as Volvo have a better start than Erebus did last year.
I remember sitting at the Clipsal with RU, (a year ago really???) Race 1 they qual last and it didn't move off the grid, got pushed down the main straight and then caught on fire, all to the tune of about 50000 holden and ford fans laughing their asses off.
so hope they do better than that!

The merc was built in 58 days or something silly like that. The Volvo has been being prepared since June last year - longer then the datsuns were.
They bee in the top 10 for sure within a few rounds

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
V8Supercars wrote:Will Davison cut his first laps in his new Erebus Motorsport Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 at Saturday’s sydney.com Test Day. And while he ended both three-and-a-half hour sessions at the bottom of the table in 25th, the results were by no means an indication of pace, according to the former FPR pilot and 2009 Bathurst winner.
“Absolutely no way,” Davison told v8supercars.com.au.
“It’s frustrating – if you’re familiar with the car, you don’t stress when things don’t go to plan. Obviously it was an important day for me, because I had no idea about this car…
“Definitely some promising things were tried, but didn’t really have a chance to show our potential.”
Rainy conditions meant it wasn’t an ideal day for testing, and Davison and his crew hit a bump in the road when clutch issues kept the car garage-bound during the first opportunity for dry running.
“The problem was, when the track was at it’s best we were in the garage doing these major changes to the car and we missed the best of the running,” the #9 driver said.
“(We used) Literally one set of old tyres – didn’t didn’t do a decent lap, didn’t get a decent tyre on the car and unfortunately it wasn’t the day we needed, but absolutely no way is that our real pace.
“No doubt if we got some runs on some other tyres – or soft tyres like everyone else was running – you’d see me much further up the grid, so that’s just the nature of our day.”
With the Clipsal 500 beginning February 27, all attention is focused on the great season opener, which now boasts three races over the Saturday and Sunday.
Davison won at the grueling street event in 2012 after clinching Sunday’s 250km race, and scored ARMOR ALL Pole Position in 2011. But despite having fond memories of previous runs at the circuit, this time the season opener is more of an unknown.
“It’s a slightly different approach going in because I’m not sure,” Davison said.
“In the past I’ve been very confident going there with a very proven product.
“This is very early days and the thing is now I didn’t get any running to know where I’m at. I know we’re not where we were there. We didn’t get any decent runs to at least go, ok we’re around 12th. I have no idea. We didn’t get any productive running for me.
“I’m not too stressed – I’m not saying we’ll come out and jam it on pole for Clipsal, but I know some of the things we’re trying, and some of the positive feedback we got from Lee (Holdsworth, teammate). I really reckon we’ll be relatively competitive thee and do not read one not bit into where my car was.
“I’m looking forward to seeing where we at.”
Wet or not, the sydney.com V8 Supercars Test Day was still somewhat productive for Davison, who became more comfortable in his car, which is the same chassis raced by Maro Engel last year.
“For me it was just good to go and do some laps, get a bit of a feel if you can for the car’s characteristics… the gearshift, the steering rack’s different, the steering weight’s different, the brake pedals, master cylinder, engine drivability, the seat ergonomics; everything’s different.”
Despite the extent of the test program Erebus had – which Davison believes to be bigger than that of any other team – the 2009 Championship runner-up found that aspect exciting.
“Ticking through these items takes time and understanding so it’s exciting we’ve got so many things to try – but often when you’ve got so much to try the changes take 45 minutes to an hour to make these fundamental changes to the car,” he explained.
Jumping back behind the wheel was a welcome change, and tricky conditions challenged the drivers after what was close to a two-month Christmas break.
“We’re just doing laps because we hadn’t been in a racecar for a few months. It’s still pretty on edge out there in the wet and gets your eye back in so to speak.”
Hard to say who is where everyone was with the conditions on the day as it was wet, dry, wet, dry etc. Also with all the different tire conditions that everyone was running. The Nissans look to have fixed there straight line issues with their aero revisions and the Volvos are just plain cool. Can't wait for Clipsal

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
It will also be a bit easier on them not having to learn a whole new car as well. As long as the aero has been homologated correctly, It will pretty much come down to how the new engine performs.NoRecoil wrote:TEEROY 34 wrote:well as long as Volvo have a better start than Erebus did last year.

Re: 2014 V8 Supercars
Five time and defending V8 Supercars Champion Jamie Whincup has confirmed he expects to soon sign a new deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering to drive a Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore VF.
But in a shock move it will only be for a single extra year covering 2015.
The extension means his deal will expire at the same time as teammate Craig Lowndes and when Triple Eight’s Red Bull sponsorship is due for renewal. Holden’s multi-sponsorship is also thought to be up at the same time.
It will also mean Whincup races for Triple Eight for a minimum 10 seasons, having started when it was Team Betta in 2006. Since then he has collected five driver’s titles and four Bathurst 1000 wins as well as contributed to five teams Championships.
Whincup hopes to have his deal sorted out with Triple Eight Race Engineering boss Roland Dane before the season-opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on February 27 to March 2.
“There are still some hurdles, but personally I would like to have it all sorted before Adelaide,” he told v8supercars.com.au.
Whincup’s deals with Triple Eight have traditionally been sorted out more than 12 months before they expire and have been multi-year arrangements.
He said there were a number of reasons why he had elected to extend his contract with RBRA for only a single further season.
“The sport is changing so much, my best is still yet to come, so one year is good,” Whincup said.
“It guarantees me at Red Bull Racing for 2015. One year is a long time, I don’t plan too far ahead.
“I have done three year deals in the past, but not when the category is changing so dramatically for everyone.
“There are new manufacturers, there are all sorts of things. It’s all happening, which is great for the sport.
“There are new drivers coming through, maybe Red Bull want a new young bloke in 2016 so they don’t want to sign us up for too long," the 31-year old said, his tongue planted firmly in his cheek.
Whincup agreed signing for a single year allowed him to spend 2014 and 2015 assessing where the next significant move in his career might be.
But he would not respond to suggestions that the one year contract hinted he was looking beyond RBRA and even potentially going overseas.
“You are putting words in my mouth now,” he said.
But he did confirm his interest in racing selected events outside V8 Supercars, no doubt having noted Lowndes’ recent win in the Bathurst 12-Hour and plan to go to Le Mans.
“I’d love to do some one-off events,” he said. “I don’t want to interrupt my V8 campaign, but if I can do some one-offs in the middle of the year then happy days because I do need experience in other cars.”
This time round it’s understood there has been significant negotiation between Whincup and Dane over remuneration in a period when team owners have been tightening their financial belts.
“We are still working on the contract, there are just a few little odds and ends, mainly with the rules of the category,” Whincup said.

Nothing has been confirmed yet. But it will be with Ferrari in the GT class hence why he joined Maranello Motorsport for the 12hr. His aim is to eventually get a shot at outright victory in LMP1.Envy The Best wrote:Lowndes is going to Le Mans? Since when and with who?
