Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
That IGN chart doesn't tell the full story in terms of pure performance. They're both using AMD tech in their CPU's and GPU's, just that Microsoft is making a couple of minor adjustments to the AMD chip for reasons unknown as yet. I'm surprised since i would've thought at least one of them would have gone with a basic Intel i5 or some such, that would DEFINITELY give an advantage over the other in terms of pure performance. As it is the AMD chips going into the systems are only running at 1.6GHz.
As for the difference between DDR3 and DDR5 memory, read here
http://www.ibtimes.com/xbox-one-vs-ps4-full-specs-comparison-1275127
http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/156273-xbox-720-vs-ps4-vs-pc-how-the-hardware-specs-compare
Ultimately theres no reason to say one is ultimately more powerful than the other, as just like the 360 and the PS3 it all depends on how you use that power. At the moment it would be a fair assessment to say that they're both going to be extremely similar.
edit: Also, another good commentary

I hope my Fanatec is simply a firmware upgrade. Dam I hope so! With a bit of luck we can just plug the thing in via USB and do away with the stupid wifi connection.

Pretty sure that is just a place holder price. Neat how HN was 888 though.

$900 lol . I'll never get that past the minister of finance. Looks like I'm going to go the PC route with pCars when everyone jumps to ONE for forza 5. $130 for each game... Are you kidding me

$900 bucks for a shit PC? I'm not trying to be combative here, but thats exactly what it is. These things have PC architecture but its an entirely closed platform where Microsoft dictates everything and you won't get the benefit of stuff like steam sales and the ability to consistently upgrade what you want/need.
And the price of those games....jesus Frig christ....

Don't panic guys... I don't think the price has been released just yet. So press the pre order button... you know you want ONE! Maybe I will just have to play with myself... nothing new there. (admin feel free to edit after you smile)

Easy on the puns Dazza, some of us can only handle one at a time. Boooyah.
Dazza just wants to use the new Skype function to show us all how well he is at playing with himself with the brand spanking new 'BOX.
~this is where the laughter goes~
Anywho, I'm quite looking forward to it. Will have to wait and see for some confirmed details/game footage for Forza 5 before I rush out and pre-order (fingers crossed for more tracks + race cars). Same goes with Assassin's Creed IV and some other games released later this year.
The FM5 trailer certainly looked aesthetically pleasing and the McLaren P1 is siiiick. Hopefully the NFS Eliminator style vibe goes away with some gameplay footage.
Oh, and hopefully the price is substantially lower. As in, hundreds of dollars lower.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
Well all I can confirm so far is what next gen console I won't be getting, if in fact I do get one, and that's an XBOX1...unless they change their stance on several of the negative things we've seen. Seems like my thought of just continuing with the 360 for an extra year or 2 maybe correct. Got the gaming to last further than that so who knows.
As for Forza 5, looks like a PGR. Wonder why? Anyway, I'm gonna need to know a lot more before the next Forza sparks any interest at all. It needs a complete track revamp and not the single digit percentage of new content it gave us last time...AND WITH NO TRACK DLC. It's a shame because Forza has some really good core elements.

If you have a Turtle Beach, its not going to work on the Xbox One (link). I wouldn't be surprised if Fanatec gear is mysteriously not supported and they come out with a new wheel specifically for the console.

I thought surely they would have intergrated Bluetooth at least for those headsets that have it which is what the PS3 uses. If that's not the case then that's just another big X against the Box. Starting to understand why it's called that now

Worth the read. It also suggests an adapter may also be possible to connect the existing chat hardware to the new controller... I now use a MS wireless headset, so that may still work, but if it does not, I guess a new shinny ONE will be on the shopping list. Who knows they may have improved things with chat.
No mention of Fanatec gear though, so no news is good news.
Hope my GT Pro Cockpit will still work...
My glass is still half full.
*Edit*
While my glass is half full...
The price reference to 888, and the name 1, could also refer to the current leading team in the V8 Supercars Championship. So does that mean we could get some Aussie tracks... oh, a long shot I know, but while we are speculating...
Would you turn for more Aussie content in FM5?

Seems that they are concentrating on working with suppliers on producing new stuff. All those fanatec wheels will only be used with PC'c from now on. Either that, or pay through the nose for the next model which will probably be available here about 12 months after its release to the US.

I am not aiming this at anyone in particular, so please don't take offence... Anyone...
If you post up a point of view that is fair enough, but if you make a statements one way or the other it would be nice if you can reference the site in which you have based your comment. I understand everyone is entitled to an opinion, and everyone will read what they want, so by posting a reference others can read the info the way they see it.
I started this thread to encourage a debate, so please back up your statements by referring to the site.
Sorry in advance if this upsets anyone, I hope you understand the point I am trying to make.
I would like to use Envy's post earlier as an example... Not a dig!
Envy posted saying the TB headsets will not work... After reading the referred site in his post, I read, there is a possibility they may make adapters for our peripherals.

Way too early for me to make decisions yet based on the available information. I'm not interested in the features they demo'd at the reveal, most are US-centic anyway. So they won't get an order from me until I know a whole lot more about the console and the games available on it and compatibilty of my existing peripherals (like $700 of wheel and pedals). If that means I don't buy one at release, thats the way it will be.
I agree with goomf, Forza 5 will have to offer a LOT more to get me interested as well. The game has had some good developments in the past 3 years but its old and needs more "serious" race customisation and track options for racing to overcome the same ol', same ol' that it has become.
The following from the link Envy posted ^^. You have to love M$ for their open greed (actually I don't - but that won't change them). I'm not too fussed about the Turtle Beach issue but if the Fanatec wheel/pedals don't work that'll be an xbox one killer for me. Realistically we all expect that something will come out to bring it together, but that could take some time. It'll be worth watching the fanatec site for info on that.Envy The Best wrote:If you have a Turtle Beach, its not going to work on the Xbox One (link). While game audio will be available through the system's optical port, in order to support chat communications, headsets will be required to make use of the new connection type. While it's possible that either Microsoft or third-party makers could develop an adapter to offer backwards compatibility, we're told that the new port is part of a larger strategy to gain control over the accessory market. Manufacturers will not only need to develop entirely new products for the new connection standard, but use licensing and authentication protocols from Microsoft, potentially driving up costs for consumers. The licensing program could also limit the variety and competitive nature of the accessory market since all manufacturers would be required to adhere to Microsoft's terms.
On the other hand, the proprietary format could offer significant improvements to the chat audio experience. The new data port reportedly supports stereo audio, potentially for the purpose of delivering game audio directly from the controller or simply boosting mono chat audio in the current-gen to stereo. In the case of the latter, stereo chat audio could lead to virtualized directional communications, allowing players to hear where a nearby player is speaking from — a feature currently found in PC titles like ARMA 2.
When reached for comment, Microsoft representatives didn't explicitly state that current hardware was incompatible, but rather that the company was focusing on new devices:
"We are working with 3rd party headset manufacturers to create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology," company representatives said. "We will share more details in the future."
It's also unclear is whether Microsoft is currently developing a headset solution of its own or will instead utilize the Kinect's noise cancellation and player detection technology to serve as the primary chat receiver.
So, time will tell. We'll eventually find out what existing gear will and won't work, what it'll cost us to buy and play on their new console with gear that suits our preferred gaming style. In the meantime I have a perfectly good xbox 360 that I can use and I'll be looking at alternatives for the kind of gaming I want to do if the new xbox ends up being a "no one".

Like i keep pointing out, the fact that you have to keep buying extras for everything is just plain rude.
Goomf wrote:I thought surely they would have intergrated Bluetooth at least for those headsets that have it which is what the PS3 uses. If that's not the case then that's just another big X against the Box. Starting to understand why it's called that now
The 360 doesn't use bluetooth and neither it seems is the Xbox One, thats why despite the fact that the 360 controllers don't include as much tech within compared to the DS3 Microsoft can charge whatever the Frig they want for them. Its also the reason why Microsoft won't let Logitech have native peripheral support (such as G27 wheels) because they simply want everything to use their proprietary wireless tech, whereas every other system simply uses a USB plug (something included with Fanatec wheels for PS3/PC support).
Now i'm not saying Fanatec gear won't work on the Xbox One, but considering the rest of their practices as the whole crap with paying for xbox live to pay for netflix and the rest, i wouldn't put it past them to change it simply to nickle and dime.
Dazza4610 wrote:I would like to use Envy's post earlier as an example... Not a dig!
I've been posting links since i entered the thread mate, you think i'm honestly making shit up because i hate Microsoft (despite having a Windows 8 based gaming PC and a dedicated Xbox 360 library of games and two owned 360's alone)?
I WANT to like this thing, I WANT to be able to play Forza 5 and the rest of the Halo games, but the amount of features that has nothing to do with games and everything to do with squeezing as much money out of your pocket as possible is utterly ludicrous. Not to mention the fact that they think making you pay for the amount of people viewing the content on their machine is a good idea (yes i posted a link a couple of posts ago for that).
Also i'd recommend keeping an eye on the details of the specs as they come, since its not all rainbows and sunshine. If you were expecting mid-high range PC performance, lower your expectations.
Also for those looking at PC solutions, Nvidia just dropped the GTX780 (35% faster than the outgoing GTX680), so 5xx and 6xx series cards are going to become much much cheaper. That said the GTX780 alone is basically a more affordable but slightly less powerful GTX TITAN, so its up to the user what they want and what their budget allows. If you've only got a small space, ASUS just released their small form GTX670, halving the size of the card for the same performance. As a 670 owner i can attest for this cards performance, if you're not in the hunt for massive frames at ridiculous resolutions, this is a great bang-for-your-buck card.
