I used your post as a good example. You had an opinion, you referenced the site you based your opinion, and allowed me to read the site (because you referenced it) to form my own assumptions. I thank you for doing so.
Play on! Dazz
Apologies, i did get the wrong implication there

The price reference to 888, and the name 1, could also refer to the current leading team in the V8 Supercars Championship. So does that mean we could get some Aussie tracks... oh, a long shot I know, but while we are speculating..
Xbox ONE has 3 syllables...

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
Reading the link that SG1 Razor posted ^.
It confirms what we already heard, xbox 360 and original xbox games won't be playable on the xbox one. And they have no plans to make them playable.
It did say that M$ will continue to sell the xbox 360 alongside the xbox one for the forseeable future. Meaning "we can milk some more money out of a soon to be dead product until the new one gets a big enough user base".
Good old M$ never shy about hedging bets to make a buck, plz excuse my cynicism.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
"Additionally, Joystiq reports that only peripherals designed for the Xbox One will work with the new console, meaning any old controllers you have won't work, and nor will the original Kinect."
What did I tell you Dazza before you told us all needed something other than our intelligent speculations before posting.
Thinking about this situation, it makes sense for them to do this. XBOX one is new. Far superior. WHy waste time and resources trying to make it compatible with yesterdays peripherals?
We all poo poo microsoft for making money. But they are a business. They are in the business of making money. I for one cannot justify the cost of buying all new gear so I'll just be happy with the 360 GT2 and Forza 3/4. When I want a shiny new game, I'll outlay $350 for a whatever the top mid range VGA card and have just as much power as the ONE.
I don't believe the crap about the new architecture making old games too hard to make compatible. I have Empire Delux (a great game from the early 90's) working on my current gen window 7 PC through dosbox. Next piece of Abandonware I'm going to get is Might and Magic 3. Made in 1987. Wasted months of my teen life playing this one. Making an emulator would be a sinch for the tech guys at microsoft, therefore I believe it is only a money raking decision.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
I know I mentioned this before but I find it hard to believe all the people who own Elite wheels are going to be left with a $500 paper weight for their Xbox after a year, it just seems way too brutal. For most of us wheel owners it would not mean all kit just the Wheel as the pedals for Fanatec are always backward compatible. Alright not ideal but still better than the alternative. I'm monitoring Thomas's Blog and there's a rumour that Fanatec and MS are are having relationship issues. Hope this is not the case.
That said I'm a bit PC gamer, I have a decent Mid to high end rig, Forza is pretty much the only game for the Xbox I play. But being able to plug in and go is a massive benefit, at the moment I can't get my Fanatec to play nice with Project Cars, or Race room on my PC, I have F1 2011 & 12 on PC but have yet to try as don't have the inclination to waste further time, I've spent hours on it. I know I have to probably do a firmware update but I know the issues Wolf had with the last update and dropping off I don't want to ruin my Forza racing with you guys for some single player PC. When there is a couple of weeks lull in the series I'll try it out.
So the Xbox One will be on my buy list, because they said that trailer of Forza 5 is in game footage and well that just looked awesome, and I can just turn on and go, with minimal faffing around.
Yes M$ is a money grabbing machine like all Corporations are, the have greedy Shareholders who want unrealistic growth year on year. Apple perfect example as well, they could have gone Micro USB like every other company in the world for phone and as the EU require but no they go lightning and make it an micro usb adapter in the EU. I don't recall PS2 controllers working on PS3 or Xbox working on the 360, the Wiimotes with trumotion inbuilt do work with the Wii U, but who owns one of them? I know one person... The PS3 and Xbox has been releasing HD remakes for download for years and we aren't upset about that. GOG.com spend a lot of time making old games Windows 7 compatible and releasing for a few bucks. It's just built in obsolescence, mobile phones have about 3 years, if they don't fail the OS updates kill the performance or won't support them. Items are now intentionally made with components that fail after x number of years, which is generally just after warranty. So you want something that will last spend the money, a $2000 watch will last decades a $200 watch will last a few years. a $20 drill from Bunnings is good for about 5 holes and a $500 one is what a Tradie would buy. A Toyota will admittedly last forever, and they are one of the few exceptions out there I feel that reasonable price and longevity seem to go hand in hand. Those 73 Corolla's just don't seem to die! It's a disposable world we live in now, a $5000 TV last 5 years because the latest 80" 4k TV just kills it. $800 phones are replaced by some people yearly because the latest and greatest has just been replaced, mainly looking at iPhone users there admittedly...
It's the capitalistic society we live in that drives this, but it is also what drives such a huge amount of innovation as well, it's not a perfect model by a long shot and without some level of oversight Corporations will get up to no good.
I'm playing Heroes of Might and Magic VI right now, great fun, loved 3 and 4 =)

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
Regardless of what has been said or even rumoured I am starting to put some cash aside for an XBox One. I am still waiting on more "confirmed" details before I rush out and pre-order.
I can not afford to set up a dedicated gaming PC as over the life of a console the PC will most likely cost me a lot more with all the upgrades required for new games.
PS4 is still not on my shopping list. I never liked their controller, they don't have Halo (even though I don't play it much these days) and after Forza 1 I do not think I could go back to GT (only got up to GT2 before the Forza experience). PS3 was only wanted for a BlueRay player that does more than play movies, XBox One looks like it does all that anyway.
Great to read all this info coming in. Hasn't really changed my mind, just delaying the inevitable.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
I read the article also... Sounds a little to biased against microsoft. I'm sure the New One will be plenty powerful for your needs. And Surfer is right: Forza is better in my opinion than GT... for now. But who knows with GT6. If I was to buy a new console, at this stage it would probably be a PS4. So I'll stick with the 360 and forza 4 and it'll stay that way until the next gen stuff is $300-400.

I do wonder what will happen to this community when 50-60% of racers make the jump. This is probably what concerns me the most.

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
I don't think F4 will stop being the racing series choice for a while, from the looks of it the 360 is going to be around for a good few years after the One release, that is at least what the media is saying. Here
If my wheel doesn't work on One then well I won't be getting it till I have some thing that does. As it stands right now will have had 2 good years from my wheel, but I want more, which let's face it is only fair given the money the wheel owners have spent on them. I agree that we should be able to just plug the wheels into the One with just a USB cable like the PS3 and PC's locking it as they have seems just odd.
Good Breakdown of the good and bad
here
Anandtech has tech spec showdown between PS4 and xbox, Note GDDR5 not all it seems. Here
I think the Xbox has interesting technologies behind it, using Virtual Machines to manage OS and games in different VM's is one. I must admit though, I'm greatly surprised that both PS4 and One are using custom AMD chips, would have thought one of them would have gone intel and nvidia...
I think the both will sit in my lounge room for quite a while.
Surfers right keeping a PC up to date is an expensive hobby, every couple of years it costs me well over $1,000 (I don't go the Uber Graphics cards these days) with a minor refresh for $500 for video or memory or something else. And frankly for racing nothing beats a great big screen and a rig to sit in, a 27" monitor has nothing on it...

GDDR5 on its own doesn't guarantee faster overall performance, but the fact that the Xbone is only dedicating 5GB of its 8 for games using the rest for the UI compared to Sony's 7GB dedicated to games is telling in itself. Now all Sony has to do is make the GDDR5 combo work and work well and they'll be laughing.

oh Dazza......ahhh gee whiz.
interesting vid though, additional physical dimensioning, better power, better quality...im sold already.
as for the life of this place when people make the jump, we did the same from FM3 to FM4 very successfully with the admin at the time doing a freakin amazing job soi with the support of our regular members and hoping some old faces return I think well be fine but we shall wait and see.
Biggest concern for me is the wheel compatibility, if you cant use them on the XB1 then I will be staying with FM4 until they work out the convert modules for existing gear.

And whats looking like a $1200+ purchase instead of a $120 new game.
And first gen consoles are always glitchy and unstable with games that either push the hardware too far or not enough.
$700<$800 for a new console with the game in some kind of tasty package is reasonable, i know a lot of people on here will be in the same boat and not be able to justify $1200.

$50 down, I have preordered mine. EB Games says they will transfer the preorder to what ever bundle deal comes out so I can choose the right deal for me. They also advised not to preorder FM5 as they are sure it will be bundled.
Might grab a second one once I know more. The first xb1 will replace my 6 year old media centre at least.

A lot of the other features mentioned in the report have already been touted by Microsoft - a redesigned d-pad, textured thumbsticks and a rumble function in the controller's triggers. Just the thing for watching TV.

Also "OMG YOU CAN PLUG IT IN! INNOVATION!"

That's what I got out of it too SG1,
There is a link in the report that goes to a much more detailed "blog"
http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/xbox-one-controller-feature
Although cant the current controller plug in via USB? Or does it still use wireless for the controller and the USB for charging?

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
There is a hope for wheel owners then.
Dazza _ good on you for getting the new console. Both it and forza 5 will no doubt be very good.
As for me, not a chance at this early stage. I have
a) $400 originally for my 360
b) $200 for microsoft wheel
c) $900 for a fanatec wheel
d) $260 for kinect
e) I'd have to know how much in total for all the games.
That is nearly $1800 for my current 360 not including games.
The family is still having fun with that.
When the one drops to $300-$400 bundled with 4 games then I'll probably get it. By then they would have worked out all the hardware bugs and the software designers would have figured out how to use the machine properly. Forza 6 maybe 7 for me lol

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One Announcement
I can justify one one... As we currently use a Windows Media Centre to control our TV and Austar and while this has served us very well for the past 6 years it is in bad need of an upgrade just as most PCs do from time to time. If what I read is correct the XB1 will do the job. The only thing I still need to work out is if the TV guide will work for Australia as our current MCE needs a third party program to gather TV guide data and put it in the media centre software. But so far the mrs is sold. She is in to technology as much as I am and knows the ongoing expense of keeping a PC up to date.
Not ditching the 360 just yet though, it will still have a place in the man cave.
Oh and now SG1s post has disappeared my post earlier may not make sense. Basically he was asking if Dektra read the entire article and was referring to the possibilities of connecting the fanatec gear via USB.
