Re: Project CARS
Pre ordered Pcars for XB1 today, will be my get back to racing game, did have it for the PC early on and was good but then got me cash back when the offer was on.
A reasonable lap top would run Pcars on the PC.

Re: Project CARS
First of all keep in mind that if you bought a wheel set up you've spent at least $1000 up on Xbone gaming. 500 mininum for the console, 539 for the only FFB wheel and around 60 bucks a year to play online, include your 360 time and projected Xbone usage to gauge just how much you're wasting for the right to play online on a service that gets taken down by script kiddies regularly. Then add in the cost of new controllers, brand new games @ 60 bucks+
Now we'll look at recommended specs.
CPU: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
GRAPHICS: nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
MEMORY: 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM
So for PCARS this is actually really tame. The i7 is simply not needed, not enough of a difference between the i5 and i7 for what we're doing.
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/z9xDK8
Now this is a build i cooked up in 10 minutes that WILL run this on reasonable settings at 1080/60. This is using brand new parts etc, so you can easily save some cash by finding some older gen parts for your CPU and GPU that will be just as good. The graphics card in that specific build is a generation above what is recommended.
Its just about shopping around, doing a bit of reading to see what you need, getting someone to build it if you're not confident and you're good to go. PC's have a greater upfront cost, but over time they are generally cheaper with massive savings on games.

Re: Project CARS
Envy, this is the big reason I decided not to get the xbone. I have a perfectly good GT2 wheel I spent $700 on a few years ago. I did not want to waste money and turn my current wheel into a paperweight. So I purchased a $400 4gb VGA card and now can run Pcars very well with the optimizations. If you wanted a vga card now you could get one twice as fast for the same price.
Nothing like having a grid of 20+ other cars on the track.
BTW my specs are very similar to what you listed. Except I have 16 GB ram and windows 7.

Re: Project CARS
VGA?
I think you're confusing your terminology. The graphics card is the GPU, or Graphics Processing Unit. VGA refers to Video Graphics Array, which is a monitor display type that only runs at 640x480.

I wouldn't worry mate. They are not cutting things out. They are disabling stuff to work on it post release. The only other option would be to delay the game yet again. I have access to the forum and this thread in particular.
SMS are working extremely hard and dare I say it, are under extreme pressure to get it out. Things will be added post release in a day one patch. Seems to be the way software development works these days

Re: Project CARS
I dont know how much of that is truth vs rumour (aside from the article you posted, I'm not hunting for info). Ive seen a lot of games released with a lot of hype and not lived up to it. That's why I wait for reviews of a final released product before I put my money into it.

Re: Project CARS
Yeah I like Emptybox sensible person and agree with what he is saying, he is right. I read the other guys blog some more and he just seems to hate on nearly everyone, except Assetto Corsa and his tag line is "The worst site you could possibly visit for Sim Racing news". So probably scratch that I think. I should have read more before posting it looks like. Google Now clearly dug a little too deep this week for me...
I'm playing pCars on a regular basis at the moment and its definitely good. It's a solid game every update improves it. Fiddling the FFB with files is annoying but there are some people doing some really deep stuff in that area, but it takes time to get that all right, but its great that in the PC community we will have that level of customisation. I'm excited with the release being so close and I really want this to work and be the start of something that brings truly amazing Sim-ish racing to well every platform for many years to come. Cause let's face it both GT and Forza need severe kicking in the pants in console world, there's no competition. =)

Re: Project CARS
I have no idea how mandatory pits work in this game. Radio guy tells me pit are ready for my stop so I go in. not a stop/go like everyone else. I fill up, change tyres, the whole nine yards. And then the radio guy asks me to come in again on the next lap for a stop/start. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.

Re: Project CARS
Yeah that's strange, I've done a couple of pits and found I have to select something in the pit option menu that comes up but I've never been told to pit again, maybe its because you do all the pit stuff instead of a just stop/go?

Yeah the career is actually pretty good I started in Kart and based on performance you would get invites to special events and stuff it really felt like you were progressing. Then they wiped my progress and I don't want to start again till it's released =(

Re: Project CARS
I just had a thought of something that I would have liked in the game: the ability to upload results and have an ongoing comp on a separate website like the XSN days. No mucking about with tables etc. All done and dusted with the possibility of the game itself producing and uploading a highlights package, plus the ability for others to post and upload their own pics and clips.

Re: Project CARS
Just re-assembled the GT2 wheel for the 8th stream release, after near 18mths of no racing looking fwd to getting back into it, had a little run with iracing for a few mths.
I'm considering doing a firmware and software build upgrade before hand, any of the fanatec/PC cars guys in the know, recommend a good starting point for the wheel and I game setting. It might be interesting to see what setting guys are running.
Cheers

Re: Project CARS
just visited the Stream store to pre-load project cars, and what s the first thing that appears in "recent news"!
If you're among the small number of folk who still buy PC games on disc, then we've got bad news for you: Project Cars has been delayed in Australia, and it's all thanks to the rain. That's right: it's not just Sydney trains that come to a grinding halt when there's moisture in the air, but video games too.
Fair enough, though – the rain was quite terrible in Sydney last week, as my kitchen ceiling will attest. Project Cars is expected to hit retail on Friday 8, a mere day after its scheduled release date, and local distributor Bandai Namco has provided us this statement:
"Our local production house suffered some damage in last week’s storms which resulted in our PC stock and DLC paper-parts having to be reprinted. As such, we are working to having the Project CARS PC stock delivered to stores this Friday 8th, a day after the console formats release on Thursday."
it never rains but pours!
