Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
Hands on preview at Gamespot, claims are using much more realistic physic than first game. (Slightly Mad studio's the coding guys for the original game had a lot of members from simbin, rumour from the PC side was that the physics were there in the code of the game but once EA got hold of it they adjusted them ""slightly"").
So physics could be quite good.
This small quote below may interest some:
"Our demo offered us a range of tracks in locations such as Shanghai, Australia's Bathurst track at dusk, and the daunting prospect of Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps at night."
Will the physics have changed enough to make it worth a purchase???
Will Bathurst alone make it worth a purchase????

Q2 2011 apparently.
They reckon it's gonna be a better simulation than Forza/GT but that might just be marketing hype. The original certainly wasn't much of a simulation.

Hence my original post about the coding was in there EA messed with it. On PC they have dug in to the original coding and released a "real mod" which apparently made it a lot better.
I hate to say it, but I am beginning to be swayed by the sounds of this one. Some more excerpts from hands on previews at different sites:
"Shift 2: Unleashed looks to be a very solid sim racer, ........., and a dynamic weather/road system. As cars race around the track, the road will take damage and create a dynamic. Cars take damage, which is especially notable during the night. When your headlamps go out, night races are even more difficult.”
"the result the all new helmet cam. Framed by the visor it’s a driver’s eye view that exaggerates the extreme. Head towards a corner and the eyes will shift towards the apex, pull alongside a driver and it’ll likely glance over, while colliding will again dramatically shift the depth of field"

Re: Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
Still, EA are masters of marketing shit games. I haven't enjoyed an NFS game since about NFS 2 on PC, long before I discovered proper sim racers like LFS and RFactor, and later, Forza. I'll certainly be putting the demo through it's paces before I rush out and buy it..

Re: Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you Okrad, I still remain skeptical and I played the very original Need for Speed game on 3DO, then never had a need for speed game until last years NFS Shift, where the physics were crap, but they did do a couple of things well.
Hence my statement above "I hate to ...." I will still remain very wary and check the forums and reviews regarding physic before parting with my hard earned, that is for sure, but it may have potential.

This looks very interesting. Might just get it. Got the original shift demo. it is not a sim, but ive got forza to scratch the sim itch. Helmet cam looks like a great idea. just hope the interiors look a little better than in shift one

that 3DO NFS was a great game , 2 way traffic ,snow on the road and that

Re: Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
I'm still not keen on any NFS that doesn't carry the Hot Pursuit title, but i'll keep my eye on it.
It may not live up to GT/iRacing physics, but perhaps the strong Aussie sales because of the V8 additions (hopefully the cars too...we'll wait and see) will send T10 into overdrive and give us an Aussie track to race Aussie cars on.

Re: Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
There's an updated hands on over at Gamespot. Looks like they really are targeting Forza fans.. From the article:
"You'll also be able to upgrade and add decals to vehicles, as well as take a photo and advertise them for sale online."
If they fix the ridiculous handling problems that plagued the first one I'd be reasonably happy. Really surprised a more comprehensive patch didn't eventuate.

Sounding pretty good, especially with those shots of Bathurst and the helmet cam looking into the corners. Hope the demo comes out soon

There's been some updates on the shift website since I last looked: some info about tracks and cars:

There's also a new 'lighting and damage' interview over at gametrailers:

Re: Need For Speed Shift Unleashed (2)
Potential filler why we wait for F4?
Im not sure yet. Might do the EA games Rental on it and return it in the first week if i don't like it..... Im much in the same opinion as okrad, NFS haven't released a decent one since NFS2 on PC........... They always promise the world but you end up with a game target at the 10-16 year old range that requires 0 skill to play with an unrealistic driving engine.
But ill give it a look.
Anyone keen to petition for bathurst in F4?

im looking forward to this, they've got full licences for the GT1s and GT3s, though ive heard talks of them claiming that they will outperform forza and gt5 which i dont really think they can achieve

I believe it. The way Naughty Bear outperforms Dead Space.
I'll take a look at this game but really, with all the potential to do something astonishing, year after year they churn out the next forgettable arcade racer that allows an 11 year old (and this has happened) to boast about his racing ability. He didn't believe me when I said that drafting cars doesn't refill your nitrous and in fact, most cars simply don't have a nitrous button. I hate that fat little kid.
