Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
i hope so. ill track down a data recovery place. i put the card into the memory card reader in my pc and nothing happens, so its corrupted.
and my favourite lens is now dead the canon 10-22mm has water in it, i can see it. its pretty funny actually
seriously considering going grey imports for the replacements. works out to be $800 cheaper.

Have you looked into getting it repaired? There are some pretty good places that can fix these things. May be worth it for high quality stuff.

Just had my first look through all this. Really nice dude. Loved your shots of the V8's. Some of the nature photography is quite well done. My sister is a great photographer although she is more into the abstract stuff. I like your photos better, of things that I care about :b. Keep up the good work.

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
good and bad news. called up Teds today and spoke to a chick. she said it would cost $60 to get the camera to Canon for a quote. but she then said that most of the time with water damage, its "uneconomical" to repair it.
so im very much considering just buying new ones, and getting every type of insurance possible

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
mcrow, just caught up with your "water disaster"
Mate that is the worst news (well you know what I mean). imo, definitely worth the $60 fee to check if repairs are worthwhile. You're probably looking at a bucketload of money to be spent, but worth knowing the current gear is beyond help before you fork out for new.
Hope you get it sorted cheap and soon.

its gonna take a couple of weeks to get a quote, i dont really wanna wait that long. ive got a photo shoot with some people on saturday, really really want a 7d with me. and my super wide angle lens.
ive got them sitting in rice, which apparently helps get the water out some how. i just dont know how long to keep them in there, people are saying 1 day, 1 week, 4 days???

I've no idea about drying out electronics.
But I can understand your urgency for replacements if you've got work coming. Might be a case of replace and then sell the old gear once repaired.
Have you robbed a bank or something? must be costing a bucketload!

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
haha - yer a freak mate! Nice work.
You still going to get a quote on repairs on the others? Do they have to go back to Canon? I took my lens (with a sticky aperture ring) to a small local place here in Hobart and they have an in-house tech who took a look at it for free.
Dunno about the rice thing. I'd leave it in there until you are going to send it to Canon (if you are). If you know anyone who works in a chem lab (like where I used to work), they would have silica gel and possibly a low temp drying oven which would work well.

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
OMFG!!!!!!!!!! took the 7d and lens out of the rice today...........and they both work!!! hell yeah!!! the only problem is the lcd doesnt display any image, it powers on though. and the lens is a bit foggy. so both are going in for repairs tomorrow, as soon as i get my photos from the past two weeks off the memory card.
so now i have two 7d's and two 10-22mm lens's. im keeping the second 7d and giving my 550d to my dad for xmas. ill be selling my repaired lens to get some money back.

Re: mcrow5's real life photos - VicDrift Round 1
That's great! Hopefully they can fix the LCD display pretty easily, and the fog may go out of the lens once it's properly dry (which they may be able to do with access to a drying oven as I mentioned above).
My gf dropped her old mobile into the toilet (before use thankfully!) and she grabbed it out, opened it up and just let it sit in the sun for a day. Put it back together and it worked fine. Generally the only issue is if there is power at the time (so a short circuit may destroy some components) of if the water sits and makes some contacts rust.
Good to hear anyway.
If you are really getting into photography (and it certainly appears you are), and are thinking of making some real money from it, it can be handy to have a couple of cameras so you can quickly change things without having to swap lens or filters.

i think ive over sharpened them though, got adobe lightroom today and still working out how to use it.
and one from todays race outing, very wet and it was raining half the time. i decided not to use my 7d as i didn't want to get wet at all. and the fact i cant see what ive just taken i hate film cameras for this reason haha! so i was using my 550d, which i can now see why i upgraded. the auto focus is not so good for motorsports, only got about 50 shots out of 190 properly in focus.

Toorongo falls? I've been there myself a few times, it's beautiful. Nice pics too. Loving the GTS. Nice to see a Monaro out there too.

yay for me not ruining my camera gear i was paranoid about damaging my gear again after the expensive incident at Toorongo Falls. anyway, I headed down to Phillip Island last night for a sunset shoot, much much better than Tuesday nights overcast weather. full write up is on Flickr.
