Re: 22/03/2013 - V8 Supercars Pink Slips Enduro
I will be up for this, now to find the next gen V8 from the dark graves of the AH, mechanics will be busy today restoring her back to the glory it once was( well with less panel damage and a splash of paint anyway).
Do we have to pass on the tune and paint that we raced with on the night or is it just the car, I'm thinking who ever I pass my car to can have my tune anyway _ its just a bit a bit special !!!

The paint would be nice, tune is a bit hard to police, so it is up to you.
Just remember you can not gift a car with "store bought / locked" livery or decals. One good way to test this is to try and list the livery on your storefront, if you can , then you are good to gift it over. Unless you win. lol
This is more for a bit of fun, and a twist to make it interesting. For me this place and Forza in general is getting a bit too serious and with serious I also mean boring. So forget the past (or learn by it), Move on, and have some F#$@ing FUN! guys. I personaly climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge a few weeks ago, and while it was not difficult, I thought, well this is a bridge and I got over it. Time to move on.
Plus it is a nice fun way to test the cars before the poll ends on Saturday.

Race 1
Race 2
Race 3
Due to a brain fade on my part, SG1 was moved in to 2nd position with everyone else moving down one place.
I am so sorry SG1, I have no idea what came over me. Once you passed me, I had no intention to fight the position back, nek minute... I am sure there is a replay somewhere. Total brain fade. SOrry mate, I wrecked reapr's new car and your race, and possibly my race (not that that bothered me as much as ruining your race).

I'm curious if this session swayed anyone's thoughts regarding what V8 setup to go with for the upcoming series?

The same as we learnt in FM3, Controller Vs Wheel plays a big part in the pit strategy. Wheel users needed one stop, and controller users needed 2 stops. Both cases dont mean much if you can not drive.
IMO the drag tires amplified the disparity.

Sorry Daz for the no show, I was under the impression this was being run on Monday night. Isn't Surfers series run on Fridays? I had a car painted up ( not very good) and was semi ready for this, next time I will read the OP more thoroughly. I will gift you my car later when I get on the box as I signed up so technically I was last. Who was last Sleuth or Dazza? So I can give them my car, not that I'm sure they will really want it.
Hoping this was a success as I would really like to participate in one of these in the future.

Success? not sure, I enjoyed myself so I guess that's all that matters... oh except for me taking Sleuth out on about lap 5 - 6, that left an empty feeling in me. (sorry again)
I would not worry about gifting your car to anyone Paul, I think we all sorted out the gifting last night... done and dusted... moving on to the next Challenge and if Friday night is clear then I think Friday night it will be. If not we always have Thursday night as casual night.
ANyway, thanks all for some close battles and giving us an oportunity to test these builds under race conditions.

PS:
The next one will be an Enduro on LaMans (with chicanes). And there will be a twist... mwahahaaa The build will be what ever is decided on in the poll for the upcoming V8 Series.
I am away next week, so maybe the week after.
Now is there a random number generator for my ipad... App store visit, me thinks.

Re: 22/03/2013 - V8 Supercars Pink Slips Enduro
No probs Dazza, incidents happen and thats racing.
What I would like to do tho with out opening a can of worms or debate is give my feedback after racing with the two set builds last night, red vs blue spec and drag tire spec.
I have tried to remain neutral on the V8 spec and builds and have had testing runs prior to last nights racing, I also have withheld my vote for the upcoming series untill I had a better feel and more racing with the different builds, for me there is positives and negatives to both builds that were used in last nights racing, but somehow I still cant help but feel the tire wear model for FM4 is broken and are we trying to compensate for this by using drag tyres to get a more realistic wear rate going on the tyres and trying to create more stratergies(ie Pit and wear) in the process, this I understand if so.
The problem is once you reach a certain level of aero damage(namely rear) on drag tyres with the V8's it become almost impossible to drive and the sweeping medium to high speed corners of Mugello possibly amplfied this, but all the same and with the small time I did spend on track with the aero damage I had on rear and sides after pitting to fix the rest of it I could tell my lap times would be greater than if I had of been using race tyres with the same damage, basically aero damage with drag tyres made me less competative than what the same damage with race tyres would of been on this track.
Personally I like the idea behind using drag tyres for the upcoming series but in my opinion after using both builds and tyres in race conditions I prefer race tyres at max width for the V8 Supercar racing. Race tyres allow more grip when damage is to aero and allow the driver to continue and still be competative to a certain level and finish the race. It is a shame that the FM4 tyre model does not allow for imo true and accurate wear rates and the ability to adjust wear rates for series events like we have on OZFM.
I understand we shouldn allow for bad driving and damage to happen in race conditions but it does and will continue to happen ragardless of whats in place in rules and car builds ect ect, what we can do is try to limit the impact it has on other drivers and there cars while racing who are affected by it regardless of who is at fault and how it happens.
So with that in mind and experiencing the damage model with both builds in race conditions my vote has been cast.
* Also on Pink Slips, I think this type of event has a place in OZFM, it's fantastic and fun and think there should be more events like it, maybe a 1 mill buy in car next time Cheers to the drivers who did turn up and hope there is another one soon.

If you guys want to run this on a Friday night go for it. At the moment my Race Club is run from around 7:30pm (Syd/Melb time) till the main event starts. There are some of us that are done and dusted by 9pm due to work so this is why I set up my event to run early. The DTM was pencilled in but until it finally starts feel free to occupy the 8:30-9pm slot.

@SG1, 1 mil buy in... Sounds interesting, that has a potential 16 mil prize pool. Credits are abundant in FM4 however 16 mil for one night racing could be fun.
@surfer, not too bothered, this was more of a one of to allow people to test the options. Might do it again sometime, but not something on a regular basis.

Re: 22/03/2013 - V8 Supercars Pink Slips Enduro
Thanks for the racing last night. I had fun with using both builds. It was interesting to note the big difference of tyre wear for the drag tyres with the controller to wheel. My tyres hit 100% wear after my first pit stop on lap 10 in only 12 laps and my god they were bad. It was like driving on ice as it would not turn and to pull up for any corner meant slowing down to less than 40km's and further to that my left side tyres were nearly 10% more worn than the right side. Considering how much my lap times were falling off once the wear started to affect it (2 seconds a sector) I may have been better off just pitting early and taking full advantage of running a lot more consistently quick laps instead.
Now I'm going to go and covert to a commodore V8 as I've now been told that's the better of the V8's driving wise.
And lastly....Reaper you're a freak!! 1:55 on drag tyres!! 90% of my S700 cars on race slicks wouldn't break into that time
Thanks again

Re: 22/03/2013 - V8 Supercars Pink Slips Enduro
Cheers nathan, I must admit I spent alot of time last week tuning that build to run in S Class public lobbies so I had a great base build for the drag tyres. Id done some practice runs too and knew I was going for an aggressive 2 stop strategy keeping myself on good relatively fresh tyres for the whole race, as I couldnt have pushed that hard and made a 1 stopper work on that setup.
It really makes a big difference having the pressures and cambers etc dialled in on those drag tyres, sometimes the last little tweaks can yield almost another second a lap if you can get them right into their peak operating window.
Personally I liked both builds for different reasons and will be happy either way, but I do think the drag tyres may throw up some more variable results. Last night in the enduro Daz and Sleuthy were looking good to stop one time less (saving about 23 seconds) than me and I would have come out behind them after my 2nd stop and maybe not been able to catch up and instead finished 3rd...

Trick is finding a distance that allows for both options for a 1 stop vs a 2 as we have found in the past, a total of around 160-170% (making a 1 stop 80-85%) would make it close but testing would need to be done to confirm it. And last night was one of the first proper runs in the V8 build with a mixed field of drives instead of the usual testers

That was one of the first times I've done a race on drag tyres so now I think I have a bit more of an idea as to how to go with tuning them but I'm expecting a lot of fine tuning will be required. The drag tyres would most likely require more strategy with pit stops than the 735 build

Na wasn't for me. I'm hopeless with swapping tunes on my cars so I usually just build a different car for each class lol. I just ran the same base tune on both my cars anyway
