Manual Clutch on controller
Not sure if this has been covered before, but was wondering about the manual clutch option. Does it help with lap times running a manual clutch? And the guys that are using manual clutch with controller what button config are you using? I have tried default setup but I just cant get hang of it.

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
you need to swap your clutch and handbrake in setting so that it allows you to use A button as clutch and X as up gear and B as down gear
hope this helps
as that is what i used to run

Thanks, will give that a try. Did it help improve lap times at all?

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
It will definately improve your lap times. If you already use manual and then swap the buttons like demon said, it will take about 10 minutes to get used to it.
Do it and watch your times improve

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
Also once you have mastered shifting with a clutch button, start rev matching.
so give the throttle a bleep each time you shift down in a breaking zone, to begin with you can "trail" the throttle while you get use to it (keeping a little bit of gas on while you break)
hope this helps

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
Why is manual with clutch a quicker gear change than a semi auto box???
In the real world race cars mostly have sequential or clutchless gear box's because they are quicker! Yes.

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
At a guess it would be because of the way the game is developed.
Manuel only in F4 (as with F3) has a slight delay inbetween gear shifts, im guessing this is to make it easier for people to play - the slight delay means you cant accidental change gears and "snap" the car sideways mid corner, effectively this small difference prevents you from "flat shifting".
Try a Manuel w/clutch and you'll see what i mean.
You'll find the "switch hand break and clutch" option in your controls

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
Should I also mention the manual clutch with a pedal...
This allows you to ride the clutch both on launch and while breaking. So if you are coming in to a corner and start to lock up the rears back gearing, you can just apply a little clutch to stop it from locking up. This allows you to run much higher dec on the diff settings.
That being said, I am still slower than most.

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
I have tried the manual with clutch on the controller but couldn't get used to it, might give it another go.
And Double d mate i totally agree with a manual with clutch for a road car but a race car is a different story!

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
I found that I knocked off approx. 0.5-1.5 seconds off my lap times when I changed to using the clutch.
Why is it quicker with a manual clutch?
Because when the A.I. shifts for you in automatic it is slower than when you do it manually.
You may also suffer from A.I. changing gears at the wrong time mid-turn compromising your cornering speed.
And most importantly you cannot brake as effectively when you do not have the assistance of the engine braking during the downshifts.

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
Semi- auto, not automatic should be faster than using a manual gearbox with clutch.
I have friends who play R Factor and they could not understand why using a clutch would be quicker than a sequential gearbox in FM4.

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
i dont think manual in this game is semi auto, it doesnt change for u if u rev it to hard and i think its the basis of the more skilled u are the more reward you get from the time u put in

Semi-auto? What is this semi-auto you speak of?
Regardless, due to the way the game has been programmed, when the A.I. shifts gears for you it is not going to happen as fast as if you do it yourself, including pushing in the clutch 'pedal' (which happens if you arent using the manual clutch).

Re: Manual Clutch on controller
also u can rev match which the game does not do for you hence why manual is slower. racing is meant to be the purest form of driving, where driver and machine go head to head against others to go as fast as possible, F1 should revert to manual gearbox again

The default config is really hard to get use to, slowed me right up, then I worked out that you could swap your hand break (A) with your Clutch Button (LB). Once I did that, all I had to do is hit the A button everytime I geared up or down... too easy. The only thing I wish I could do now is remove the hand break (Now LB) because I find myself accidentally hitting the hand break at times.
