Re: Suggestions For New Series
Been thinking about this for awhile and this is one for the race organisers and or admin mods for future big series events like what we just had in V8 Series 9.
Basically my suggestion is to run future series like the V8's fortnightly instead of weekly for the race series, yes I know what your thinking but we miss out on racing every week like we have done. for well ever right..
Well hear me out, run the V8's fortnightly, run qualifying for that track every other fortnight, so yes you will be racing every week, just one week is qualifying for the upcoming track and the following week is racing that track..
Ok so what about people who don't qualify I hear you saying, well instead of different lobby's like we have now with a different championship for each there is only one lobby, yes a super lobby where everyone is involved for the one championship. If the lobby is to big yes you need to have 2 or 3 rooms to accomodate all the drivers, no problems you miss qualifying you go to the bottom room and get what points are on offer there, oviously you qualify get some points for qualifying to make it even more worthwhile and you start higher up even in room 1 where there is higher points on offer to go towards the one championship that everyone is racing towards regardless of which room you fall in. Just like they do now in real race series.
Sure sh!t can this idea and don't follow up on it or even implement it cause we have always done it this way and it works type mentality, well change is good, its fair, it creates competition, it is actually more realistic, it stops all the messing around on race nights with having to qualify first therefore we could actually have longer races, it makes everyone try to improve to get into a higher room if there not already and be rewarded for it with the extra points on offer for doing so, rooms are allocated and drivers starting positions allocated on actual performance per track and changeable throughout the series on a per track and performance basis, it is a true OZFM championship on offer with only one winner and satisfaction of knowing where you placed on the OZFM leaderboard for the championship.
And a lot more positives and what I think and believe is a better format than what currently exists, It also helps to reduce the frustrations of week in week out racing and how that gets posted on the forum as the gap week for qualifying is sometimes a welcome relief, the chance to run a few more practice laps which could be another designated night, ie practice night(s) Doesn't matter nor affect as much the championship if people drop out or in throughout the series.
Overall this imo will make future OZFM V8 championships bigger and better for all with fairness across the board, 1 championship 1 winner. Its a win win format not only for us drivers but for series and OZFM as a whole.
Also be good to see 1-2 rolling starts be implemented into future larger series for some variety and even more so for those tracks like RD Atlanta which don't have grid boxes to line up in.
I look forward to hearing from the community and organisers admin mods on this and hopefully we can get it implemented into future feature series here on OZFM.
Ok Ok now what about assists, well who cares really, the top 10 drivers shouldn be using any regardless and if you are then you should turn them of as you have reached the next level, end of story..

I like it.
Follows more a general race weekend. Day one includes qualifying and day two they race.
I do have some ideas that would not alter much of what you have posted, just pad out the qually night.

^^Sounds good. Would still be great to get some type of racing in on the qualify nights..what about support races (sprint race, no qualifying, single make, xbox decides - random grid - different car every second week)...

Re: Suggestions For New Series
Agree with everything said above. Myself and a few other guys have chatted about this idea online a couple times. Good on you Razor for taking the time to type all that up.
I think it would be a great idea to trial this between now and v8 series 10 with the VF Commodores, maybe run for 3 rounds / 6 weeks.

How would the point system work? Maybe join the entire race length so whoever finished the race the quickest wins and so on. So if you have a bad qualify night and have a great race night you won't be limited to the points due to being in a lower room

one large points system. This way people dont sandbag their way into the bottom half just so they can "win".
if someone stuffs up qualifying then they deserve to be in the lower half of the field (second room). After all, qualifying would be lengthy sessions, not just a single hot lap. If you still end up in the bottom half it's your own fault. The v8s the other week, red bull qualified poor and got their worst results of the season - qualify better, get the chance to get more points. Simple!
It also means that you get two weeks to tune for the next qualifying night.
Good to see so many people thinking about very similar ideas.

Re: Suggestions For New Series
So if you qualify 1st - 16th the worst points you can get would be for 16th place. If you qualify 17th - 32nd the best points you can get would be for 17th.

Re: Suggestions For New Series
I like your idea razor. To build on it, if it was ran over 3 rounds/6 weeks each round could be ran differently. First two rounds ran as sprint rounds (3 races, say two 8 lap races and one 16) and the final round as an Enduro round. This still leaves us with 7 races and the option to do 7 tracks. Could also increase the length of qualifying sessions with 3 separate sessions.

Haha you'll be right. Its guaranteed you'll be placed around guys who are of similar skill and speed. That's why we qualify.

Re: Suggestions For New Series
Hey I was thinking of a very small car series. you can only choose from D class cars that weigh under 1000kg stock and the finished result must still weigh in under 1000kg. There is 12 cars to choose from (there is 2 more cars but I feel that they would be unfair as their starting pi is to high, the Lancia Stratos and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa). I would also include DLC cars. I would make mandatory upgrade like their has been in other series but after those upgrade you free to do what ever you want up to a certin PI.
The list of cars, DLC*:
1963 Volkswagon Beetle
1965 Mini Cooper S
1970 Nissan Datsun 510
1981 Volkswagon Scirocco S*
1984 Volkswagon Rabbit GTI
1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA Stradale
1977 Ford Escort RS1800*
1971 Lotus Elan Sprint
1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex
1984 Honda Civic CRX Mugan*
1980 Renult 5 Turbo*
2010 Abarth 500 esseesse
I Would make it Madatory to make the car rear wheel but there could be issue ie: Weight. There would also be no engine conversions
If any one has any input or ideas just let me know as there could be some issue that im not aware of yet and im still thinking of what the mandatory upgrade will have to be and the max PI you can go to.
EDIT:
I was thinking of doing:
Race Tyres
Forza Front and Rear bumpers
Race Transmission
Race Driveline
Race Diff
Race Brakes
Race Springs
Aspiration Conversion: Single Turbo
RWD Conversion if you Need to
NO Engine Conversions
Max PI 420
Have to take beetle out as PI is to low and allows for to much upgrades.

Re: Suggestions For New Series
^ i like that, more emphasis on the tuning and actually being able to drive.
My suggestion is how about we do something different to the usual. Ie not v8 supercars, muscle cars, touring cars etc theres plenty of car styles we havent even thought about racing

VW Fun Cup !!
Car:
'63 VW Beetle
Build:
Conversion *Do first*
Engine Swap = 2.0lt I4 - VVT
(yes it was from a Honda but it is closer to a Golf engine than the ol' air cooled flat four)
Engine:
stock
Platform and Handling
Brakes = Race
Springs and Dampers = Race
Front Anti-roll Bars = Race
Rear Anti-roll Bars = Race
Chassis Reinforcement and Roll Cage = Race
Drivetrain
Clutch = Race
Transmission = Race
Differential = Race
Tyres and Rims
Tyre Compound = Sport
Front Tyre Width = 235
Rear Tyre Width = 265
Rim Style = Multi-Piece = BBS RS-GT
Front Rim Size = 16"
Rear Rim Size = 16"
Aero and Appearance
Front Bumper = Forza (Adjustable)
Rear Wing = Forza (Adjustable)
Rear Bumper = VW (no bumper)
C 500
158 KW
202 N-m
844 KG
43% Front
Tuning:
Free to tune
Livery:
Race number required on both sides and rear (any position).
Any font, any size and any colour.
Sponsors: No tobacco, nothing offensive or explicit (the usual rules)
Would be nice to see the smaller companies over the huge global giants featured on most race cars. The big Aussie/Kiwi companies are ok.
Monster/RedBull/etc? Please no...
Bunnings/Eagle Boys/Local VW Dealer/etc. Yes.
Your fave Charity groups? Also ok.
The big brands that make your car go will be allowed but set as your minor sponsors. Fuel, oil, springs, tyres, etc. Some may be set for the series. eg: VW

Re: Suggestions For New Series
Like that idea Lachy. I think it would be a great series love those cars! And something different too! I'll build up a few of them.
I've been doing a bit of work on some early DTM cars at this stage ( '91 BMW M3, Merc 190 and '93 mustang), got nothing finalised at this stage still working on possible builds.

Re: Suggestions For New Series
I'm sure a group A series will be run soon enough which uses those cars. hopefully t10 will give us back the Volvo 240T, Alfa Romeo GTV6, BMW 635csi by then. even (bit more of a long shot) Jaguar XJS, Nissan skyline DR30/HR31, Rover Vitesse and an old commodore. Not going to happen I know but worth the thought
