Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
Best clean lap 1:42.8, best dirty (that damned sweeping right handing down the bottom of the hill) 1:42.5, highest rank 115 but increasing all the time
Overall, i'm absolutely loving it, mainly because i can actually tell the difference between FM4 and FM3, which was one of my biggest issues when going from FM2 to FM3. You can immediately feel the difference in the tire model, and i think this is going to change the game, especially in the R3,2,1 categories. In FM3 you could get away with messing up a corner entry, in this you pay for it if you keep going helter skelter.
Can't wait for the 13th!

Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
Using the Fanatec GT2 I have to say the Force Feedback is awesome! Best I've felt so far and I can't even tweak the in game setting. You can really feel the car breaking away on those sweepers.
Personally I'm not a fan of this stupid track and wish Turn 10 had spent more time on obtaining more real world tracks, but I guess for the purpose of the demo it looks very pretty.
Had a go at the Rivals and my god there are some fast drivers here! Don't know what assists you guys had on but I had everything off and steering switched to simulation and the Ferrari was quite a handful.
Anyway first impressions are this so far.
Handling: 9/10
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 8/10 (Though a little hard to tell as you can't turn the damn music off!)
Cockpit view: 8/10 (Wider FOV with some slight head tracking)
A MUST BUY.

Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
just spent an a couple hours playing the demo...i'm really trying to like it but i don't.
the handling seems to have gone backwards. it doesn't feel hard on full sim.
it just doesn't feel full sim period. i can't help think all that hoohar about tyre data has been BS.
the envrons detail at this track are rubbish compared to FM3. the textures are not as detailed, and the foilage has lost it's depth. it looks cartoony. not to mention it reeks of GT in design not just look. mostly unchallenging. and this was meant to be the new signature fantasy track. i now see why they dropped New York track, it's too detailed for this game engine most likely.
a shame as the cars look fantastic but they looked great in FM3 anyway. now they look out of place in this poor envronment. PGR had better looking surrounds than this. maybe when i see the other tracks i may be convinced otherwise.
to sum it up some w$%ker at Turn 10 has said "hey let's tear the soul out of FM and make GT6"
i am fairly disappointed with FM4 for now...

I agree 100% mate. Another thing to add to that is the AI is even more brain dead this time round. I'am pretty disapointed so far. Will have to wait to see if the full game can chance my mind.ted wrote:just spent an a couple hours playing the demo...i'm really trying to like it but i don't.

Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
I haven't really stopped to look at things closely, but it does seem to look pretty garish (same as some of the FM3 tracks).
Handling seemed ok - the yank muscle car floated like a boat and stung like a snail. The Impreza was hot off the line. The Pagani was fun and light. Haven't tried the rest.
Definitely enjoyed it. Looking forwards to the full version to get a better feel for it.
Chris
PS - I'm going with my plan of using no assists (including braking lines) for FM4. Bloody hard when you don't know the track!

You can turn the music off by loading your own music before you boot the game. Keep it playing until you start a race and then just press pause.

Great Tip Chimp,
One thing that made me turn it off last night was the dam music. I found it very difficult to hear the car (engine and tires).
As for the demo, and I think FM3 was the same. The demo was a bit dissapointing, I am running this time round with full sim (extreme), and found the car lacking both front and rear grip all at the same time. With the GT2 wheel, I found the F1 2011 setup to work the best with a slight increase in the sen setting. I am using 270 now, where in FM3 I was using 400-450. The senary... well I must admit I did not really have time to look too closely at that, I was more trying to work out what yellow line was I going over to produce a dirty lap.
One thing I do like is the handling, although I said earlier the grip was lacking, I sure could feel when each end was at the limit and about to let go. Can not wait to drive a car with race tires and a bit of tunning available.
Cockpit view is something I never really liked in FM3 and this time I discovered many times... oh I am in cockpit view... The POV is much better and I had enough vission to see braking points and apexes. Being the demo each time I started a race it defaults to cockpit, and I would get into the lap without even realising I was in that view.
For me, I can not wait to start playing with the wheel settings and getting into FM4.
PS: I have merged this and another topic regarding the demo release.

Hahaha!
Yeah - another thing was the VERY generic crashing sound when another car hits you, its like grabbed one crash sound file and went "that'll do"

Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
HAHAHA yes ive been modeled into the game
gotta say i loveeee this game, it feels so much different to FM3. i am still braking way to early for some corners, but hey, full sim on a controller is much harder in fm4. its so awesome when you downshift wrong and the back spins out, then you over correct and spin the other way!! bring on release day already!!

Is there anyway to make the microsoft steering wheel react as realistic as that fanatec one?

Re: Forza 4 demo out tonight.
I'd have to disagree on the detail front. Despite the track being rather simple and probably not the best representation of FM4, i'd have to say it is much much much more enjoyable to look at than the FM3 fictional settings. Hell those FM3 fictionals look cartoony to me.
edit: I also refuse to get into the GT vs FM "debate". Many things i'd like to say, but no, i'm not getting my hands dirty.

Yup I agree with this, also the lighting model looks to be WAYYYYYYYY imporved over the "glare or nothing" of Forza 3 with its dull colors & blinding glare in the sunlight. Also remember a 1.2 gig demo is surely going to be missing alot of the extra detail that the full game will have.
If you don't believe me think back to the forza 3 demo, scratchy as anything compared to the actual game & only 1 track, but the base driving model (good) was there. I think this is the same situation...
