Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
Yep these youngies don't understand what they missed out on. Now we complain when the gameplay isnt perfect on flat panels at 16.8million colours. People complain that the anti-aliasing and frame rate isn't perfect.
I'm not even 30yrs old and when I first started you were lucky to play on a green screen at 80x24 characters at about 10 screens per second... note that's not pixels, that's characters. You had green and black, and black was basically a really dark shade of green. I was lucky my TV was black and white, so I got white instead of green. Still took me 30mins to load a game. I had a 9pin joystick to steer my car, and "simulators" meant you steered your "car" between an "oil patch" ie a 4 character cross, and a "car" which looked like a block.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
It's good for a blat - the physics didn't lend themselves to precise driving, but that suits me to a tee
Never really did get into the social side of the first one, but there certainly seemed to be a lot of potential.
@okrad I remember this on my BBC model B back in the mid 80's it was probably one of the very first 'simulation' titles to appear. I was lucky enough to have a 5 1/4" floppy drive, so games didn't take so long to load:

Street Rods anyone?
The very first Forza for me, remember clicking on the bolts in the engine bay for engine swaps after looking them up in the paper, ahhh good times.
Picking up races at the Malt Shop, chopping the top, going for the manual trans
And racing the King and his black Corvette,
holding down the space bar for the gas

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
thought i would write up a quick review on TDU2 ..
I was able to download it and test it on my modded xbox ( off Live thought )
Have to say it is a very adictive game.. u can drive around for hrs and still find u places, events, challenges..
In the game there are 3 licence types.
C = Classic cars licence.
B = Which is an off road racing licence.
A = Ashphalt racing licence.
each licence has 3 levels except A which had 4 or 5 from memory.
Single Player Events.. there are typical lap races, Timed races, Point to point races, Races where u have to stay above a certian speed limit with a timer.. when u are above that speed u build up points .. there is a timer that counts down once the timer finishes u end up with a total point amount.. most points win. Speed Trap racing which u go through the speed traps in what ever order u like and hightest total speed through all traps wins.. From memory thats all i can remember but i think there is one other race type..
Multiplayer Events unfortionatly i cant add much here as im not on live.. but i know there are typical lap type races , p2p races and a few other types.. but there is a mode where u can be a OUTLAW or the LAW.. yep u can be a cop or not a cop..
Avatar Places u can go to places for your avatar.. Real Estate ( buy a house with garage spaces ) also u can buy diffent things for your house.. and add picture that u take in the game andhang them in your house. you can go to clothing stores, Cosmetic Surgery, Hair dressers, so far thats all i have found on the 1st island ( ibiza ) u can also fly to another island ( Hawai ) so u have double the driving distance in TDU2 compared to TDU1
Car Places u have set dealerships that sell 1 set brand of car.. u have asian and european car dealiships, there are used car dealers who sell a variaty of cars, there are mechanics that specialize if certian types of cars e.g ( german cars, asian cars etc) there are spary and sticker shops, also car wash places.
Challenges in the game there are a few chalenges you can do.. u can do driving challenges e.g drive someone from one point to another within a set time fram, there adrenalin junkie chalenges when u have to drive the passange where ever u like but at high speed , drifting, jumping and near misses build on the adrenalin meter .. u need to fill the meter but a set time, there are also car Wrecks you need to find around the island once u collect a certian amount of cars u can collect a new secret car from one of the shops they specify, there is also a PHOTOSHOOT challenge. where u have to take a photo with set regs.. usually the pic has to be taken at a certain place and a certian time.. some of the pics need cars in them some dont.. again do all the photo challenges and u get a bonus gift.. also all pics u tke u can put up in your house that u own..
Also u can be in single or multiplayer modes and start instant chalenges ( just drive near the car and flash your lights and its on ) it sets a default wager of $1000 and then u can add more to it if u like.
theres probly alot more in the game that has not been unlocked yet.. but thats all i could think of..
UPGRADING and PAINTING CARS When it comes to upgrades.. it is not as indepth as Forza ofcourse.. you can stage upgrade your engine, gearbox, brakes and wheels.. there a 4 stages of upgrades for all cars.. So when it comes to upgrading cars it is quit basic..
When u buy a car u can choose the factory style rims u want, a factory colour of the car and the interious colout and interiour inlay colours.. After u purchase the car u can go to the spray shop and then colour it any colour u like from a colour spectrum pallet.. u can choose from MATT, GLOSSY, METALIC, CABON types of paint.. Also u can Tri Colour paint so u can choose 2 colours to mix together.. pretty much the same as the 2 colour paints in forza..
when it comes to stickers they have from memory 15 pages ( same as forza ) of stickers.. the trick part is aplying them ( im not to keen on the way u design on TDU2 ) it is quiet hard to apply vinyls.. E.G as you wanted to put a racing strip from the boot to the bonnet.. u would get a strip type shape and u can enlarge it but u cant make it the length of the car like forza.. it has its limit.. so say u had a strip which was enlarged to its max it would be the length of the bonnet only.. they have a option there called ( symetric ) if u click that and put the strip on the bonnet then move the car on a to a certian angle the strip will go the length of the car but if u are looking at it directly from the top the strip would only be bonnet length.. ( you probly not getting what iu mean as its sorta hard to explain ) best egsample i can think of is.. if u are looking at a side of the car the strip would only do the length of the front quater.. but if u have the strip sitting at the front quater then turn the car so u looking from the front 1/4 down the side of the car the strip with then go down the length of the car.. one thing they didnt think of which is good in FORZA is how u can select layers, copy layers and duplicate one side of the car to the other.. in TDU2 i cant work out how u can do this.. but i know u can as i did past a star shape on one side and it went to the other but after i did it once i couldnt work it out again.. but not being able to select layers makes it a little difficult.. and u cant remove a layer once u stamp the shape its there only way of getting rid of the shape is removing all stickers pasted on it..
There are 2 Maps as mentioned earlier ( ibiza and hawai ) ( bad spelling day for me ) these maps are quiet large so theres plenty of Places to drive.. u can fly from one to the other for free after u pay 10k ingame $$'s for a so called frequent flyer ticket..
there is also a casino to try and win money or usually lose your money..
there are clubs u can buy so u can create car clubs.. and invite people to join.. but not able to see how indepth that is as im playing standalone and not on live..
there is also from what i have found 2 large shopping centre car parks when u can go to create online custom races.. FULLY SIK HABIB hehehe
also u can create your own races and race types and create your own custom challenges and race friends, club members and random online people..
have yet to try this but did have a little fiddle with it.. u can create cuircut form 1km to 100km races around the island..
overall i think this game is adictive and fun to play.. if you are into indepth tuning then this wouldnt be the best game to pick .. but if u like to race on the streets and just explore and try diffrent challenges them im sure u wont put the controller down for a while.. ( when i first played it ) i was up from 8pm to 5 am.. lol what a loser lol but i couldnt stop driving around to all the diffent places .. all areas have there own look and feel to them, mountion sides, forests, long desert roads, close city roads, off road and the list goes on..
I have put a preorder in for the game which is ment to be released on friday the 11th.. but received a call today from eb games in sydney cbd saying there stock has arrived but i cant pick it up till tomorrow..
not sure who will be giving TD2U a go.. but if any of you are, im sure i will see u there sometime..
Forza is still my NO#1 racing game .. this will be my NO#1 fre roam mass multiplayer hoon Game
I would have forgotn stuff about the game.. but feel free to write any questions and i will answer if i can or i will test to see if there are any features u guys ask about

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
i would say more arcade then sim dazza.. although the driving is pretty good.. but if u are comaparing the driving to forza.. then its not a really sim.. as im more into driving sim's.. forza would be my serious racing so to speak game.. TDU2 i have to say is heaps of fun even if its not a true sim..
Also there is smoke effects and plenty of damage physics.. i tried to take a few pics last night .. but they come out pretty shit as the refresh rate on the tv seems to put lines in my pic's ( pics from my phone ) or its blurry.. will test again tonight..

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
dazza its released tomorrow .. well eb should have them as i had a call and my pre order has come in but cant give it to me today for some crappy reason and i have to wait till tomorrow. .. mate i pay for games also. i do download and have a bit of a play in SP mode on my modded xbox to see if its worth the $$ ( i do beleive the people who make these games deserve the $$ for there time and effort) but in saying that some dont as i have brought games before ( NRL ) which are a real flop and shouldnt be put on the shelves sometimes.. Seeing the site is US based they didnt have NRL posted for a trial play..
no probs reaper cant say its a good review seeing im as dislexic as mark chopper reed. lol but i put up what i could remember of the game..
its one of those games u can play for a while then put away for a bit and then just get it out and keep playing.. or if u want a bit of a diffrence in a racing game..
im sure i will see some OZFM'ers on there..
but in saying this i still wont be puttig forza to the back of the game pile.. i think these 2 will be sitting on the xbox and i will be jumping from one to the other..
i had a look on ebay and there are some aussie sellers selling it for 68 and 10 shipping which is cheap.. as EB are selling it for $99 .. but not to sure if the ebay ones are AUST release versions or not..

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
one thing i didnt mention. but this could be false info as i havent yet been able to do anything online..
i have noticed when u design a car u cant save the design and i dont think can u sell it like on forza's store front.. so everyones designs will be unique.. i think forza are leading the way on car customizing and with designing and selling vynils, designs and cars to most of the games on the market.. was shocked when i seen GT5 u couldnt use a colour spectrum to chose a colour for your car or that u couldnt add vynils or sell cars on auction but with the custome challenge maker and race maker.. have to say TDU2 has taken the lead there.. u have unlimited ways to design courses.. u could make it 1/2 ashphalt 1/2 dirt like a rally course should be
another think i like is TRAFFIC

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
some of the cons i found are..
1. u cant reasign your gamepad buttons.. how they set the buttonsis how it stays .. which sux as the B is down gear and Y is up gear.. so being used to forza .. im always finding myself down gearing when i want to go up gears .. and doing a hand brakie ( X button ) when i really want to go down gear.. but u get used to it..
2. one thing i found is the steering is very touchy.. ( i recall TDU1 being the same ) well thats on a gamepad.. if you use a steering wheel it could be diffrent ?
unfortionatly .. i have my seat, my fantec wheel .. and one lazy assed mate who sleeps 15hrs a day after work so my frame is talkingits time coming together.. now i got 2 games i really wona test the wheel on and i cant.. and after playing GT% on my mates setup.. honestly i hate usingthe gamepad now.. its just no where near as fun..
3. the applying vinyls could have been done a little diffrent and more user frendly.. but after seeing some of the tallent on OZFM when it comes to designs im sure some of the guys here could paint up some wicked designs..
4. cars you win off rivals ( ingame challenge rivals ) some reason i cant sell the cars i win off them.. maybe u can later on in the game i dont know. ?? but im stuck with 2 cars so u need to buy a house just to garage them.. PAINFULL.. who wants a pink mustang with red lips on the doors sitting in the garage.. And u cant paint cars u have won from ingame opponents..
5. SP Police chase.. once the police chase u.. if u can keep away from awhile u will find there will be quite some police cars chasing u.. ( had 9 ars at one stage ) whilst being chased i was able to hide down a alley way.. next min they got the chopper out looking for me .. next i know i got a fine.. and was busted .. but they nevr caught me.. so thats a bit of a sux ass.. u should be fined if caught..
6. you cant save replays. but he replays look awesome when u watch them.. and some of the camera angles are great.. especially the passanger view and the middle view when u are behind the driver and passange .. inline with both head rests.. the interiour detail i must say looks awesome..
tonight i will try take some pics and a small video and see how they turn out and will post for you guys just cant say how good it will turn out though..
1. u cant reasign your gamepad buttons.. how they set the buttonsis how it stays .. which sux as the B is down gear and Y is up gear.. so being used to forza .. im always finding myself down gearing when i want to go up gears .. and doing a hand brakie ( X button ) when i really want to go down gear.. but u get used to it..
2. one thing i found is the steering is very touchy..
And u cant paint cars u have won from ingame opponents..

i still have a copy of test drive 1 on the C64. Sounds like they've improved the Game/Graphics/Sound/Everything since then. might hook it up and laugh at it tomorrow night.

Hahahahaha recoil my eldest daughter (14yo) laughed her ass of at that and said you played that game when you were a kid. And I told her that was thee bees knees in 1987 she just laughed. Kids these days are so blessed with the choice of consoles and gadgets us older generation didn't have. I cannot imagine the things I could have done at school with just a mobile phone. lol
