Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
smoke effects!!! what are they haha? damn it looks good, but buy the look of the trailer, id say the focus is being put on the scenery and not the cars. the cars dont look to flash either.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
Well, truth be told the environments needed a facelift, the cars, honestly, were perfectly fine. Looks like they succeeded.
Set to be the only other racing game i will own on the 360 (PGR3 isn't mine)

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
Dunno - I have Forza for road racing sim, Dirt 2 for off-road fun, and NFS for street carnage (and perhaps Burnout Paradise soon).
TDU2, didn't grab me.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
tbh the great thing i enjoyed about the first test driver was just driving through all sorts of places all over that island and running into ppl and then dragging them off or something lol

I put a few hundred hours in on TDU1, have all the DLC. There's some pretty awesome rides in there.
Aside from what looks like potential offroad tracks which may be raced, weather effects and polished geometry and graphics... i don't see anything that groundbreaking from TDU1 in that footage.
This game is just what the title implies, a bit of a test drive... as opposed to Forza which is a race/paint/photograph/life draining simulator
The most fun i had was just cruising around different parts of Hawaii with a group of friends in assorted cars/bikes.
Still a great game, i may get it but i still don't see it pulling too many Forza fans away.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
Its not meant to pull people away from Forza, its a completely different beast. Yes, forza has the road racing stuff, but honestly nothing compares to to cruising around the mountains knowing that you can just go round and round and round without a timer. I loved the northern part of the TDU island with the winding roads, windows down, Ford GT engine blasting in my ears.
Honestly, when it comes to that, Forza doesn't compare, NFS never nailed the free roaming and Paradise....well i still prefer B3.

Cool - maybe I'll take a look at the demo when it's out. :-)
But, I think my next purchase will be Red Dead Redemption.

i liked the first one and this one looks just as good.. only think i didnt like it no damage and was a little to non realistic.. more a arcade game then a sim.

Um...TDU was never a sim, nor was it ever made out to be a sim. And TDU did have damage, like you could total your car, but in terms of realistically affecting things like steering if you mess up the springs, then no.
Honestly i could live without damage in a free roaming game. Its not fun trying to get from one place to another fast and take a wrong turn and totally smash your car. These kinds of games are about the looks, and a smashed F430 isn't pretty

Never tried the original TDU, might pick this up considering it will have the original island from TDU as well as the new one, for just a mellow out drive type game.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
I remember playing test drive on a mate's 386. He took the 5 1/4" floppy out of the drive and i stared in amazement that it was actually possible to play a car game without the disc in the drive.
For the time the 16 (yes, one more than 15) colour cars and mountain passes were amazing considering I was used to playing games loaded off a cassette tape in black and white (took about 15-30mins to load a game)

Re: Test Drive Unlimited 2
Yep these youngies don't understand what they missed out on. Now we complain when the gameplay isnt perfect on flat panels at 16.8million colours. People complain that the anti-aliasing and frame rate isn't perfect.
I'm not even 30yrs old and when I first started you were lucky to play on a green screen at 80x24 characters at about 10 screens per second... note that's not pixels, that's characters. You had green and black, and black was basically a really dark shade of green. I was lucky my TV was black and white, so I got white instead of green. Still took me 30mins to load a game. I had a 9pin joystick to steer my car, and "simulators" meant you steered your "car" between an "oil patch" ie a 4 character cross, and a "car" which looked like a block.
