OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
Idea
- Run 1 Minor and 1 Major Race one night per week (i.e 1 race in support class as well as 1 race in the DTM)
- Series will run for 6-8 weeks on a yet undecided date (possibly a day alternate to Tuesday or Friday, unless Surfer or Recoil are keen to run this as part of their particular race nights)
The Cars
Competitors will have a choice between 4 DTM cars:
- 2004 Audi #8 Audi ABT TT-R
- 2011 Audi #(2, 3, 4, 5, 6) Audi A4 Touring Car
- 2008 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG C-Class Touring Car
- 2003 Opel #5 OPC TEAM PHOENIX Astra V8
Once more testing has been done, tunes will be put on my storefront and the cars will be put in the club garage for everyone to use and have a go in. The builds need to be followed exactly (the Vauxhall needs an engine swap for example).

Re: OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
The DTM BMW M3 is built to a different spec than the ones we have in game, which are the old spec. Even if the M3 was in the game, it wouldn't be fair to include it as it has far less downforce as per 2012 DTM rules.

Re: OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
If it was in the game though, perhaps there would have been a way to build it to be at the same times of the older cars. That's just speculation though. I was unaware that there was a major rule change in DTM this year.

There was, the new cars have significantly less aero attachments than the previous cars. Compare the rear bumpers of the 2011/12 Audi's.
2011
2012
And then the M3
You wouldn't be able to make them equal, they're inherently different simply because of the design. Can't change much in Forza. Hopefully the roster will be updated in Forza 5.

Re: OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
I wasn't arguing with your statement, I just don't follow DTM much at all and didn't know there was a rule change. That is a pretty significant difference, I agree. Possibly around 40-50kg of downforce have probably been lost in the newer models which is a fair amount.

....there was an argument? I'm just embolding a statement, and since you didn't seem to be clear on the differences between 2011 spec and 2012, i added pictures.
Because pictures are awesome.

No Dektra...just no. These are German and made by entirely different manufacturers.
Will be running test sessions throughout the week, new guys feel free to come in and join! Once you get the hang of driving them they're the easiest things you'll ever drive, what else can take probably 60% of the Nordschleife full throttle?

Re: OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
Hey Zab, very keen on this. I really like the idea having the smaller track versions for support races. Gonna mess the odd person up I reckon but that's all part of it. Pity the Bugatti cutdown of Circuit de la Sarthe isn't in it. Are you thinking of using the Old version for one of the races? And not that it has to make a difference but I think the Nurburgring race is actually run on the Short version.
I don't know if this would put people off but what about running the main races to official laps and possible pit windows? Looking at 2012 for example (LINK HERE), Hock ran at 40 & 42 laps and pit windows were Lap 10 - 30 & Lap 11 - 32. I guess a race like that would take approx 1hr 10min.
I'm guessing you lot have raced some DTM series before so I'm probably not offering any new info, but another few things (just in case) that I was looking into when I was going to put one togther:
Some other official tracks of old:
Silverstone Racing Circuit, Grand Prix Circuit
Mugello Autodromo Internazionale, Full Circuit
Suzuka Circuit, Full Circuit (the one that broke the series for a bit)
I understand they're heading to America next year but haven't found any official track listings.
Also, on a support scenario, nothing against cars you've chosen, but another idea if not already done before is racing cars of old as well or alternately. eg 1986 BMW M635CSÌ, especially given the '84 version was either the first winner and/or champion. I've also been told the 1991 BMW M3 and 1990 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II would be a good match up. Not sure what would have to be done to get them even if not already but I think they raced against each other in the past. I think the 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z (or similar) and 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 were in there as well.
Whatever you do, looking forward to it.

Re: OZFM Tourenwagen Masters
Looks good and like the idea of extended races of 1 hr+ ish to include pit stops or even two at designated lap windows expecially for DTM's, as for car selections does it really matter what year the car is or its looks and dynamically this that, as long as they match up to be competative in game ie FM4 who really cares, I surely dont and think this series as a revised DTM's take off has potential.

Cheers for the ideas Goomf, always appreciate some good quality feedback and ideas mate i'll break it down into a few parts
1. I would like to run the old version, as it would make drafting down that long straight really important and you could even team up with someone to run as a drafting pack to gain extra speed down the straight. But that hard corner after a long straight in a pack of 16 people seems like a bit of a worry I guess we can give it a go in some practice.
2. Running full length races as per real life may turn some people off, as 1 hour + races can really put pressure on people's concentration limits and this isn't intended to be the most super serious of serieses, but at the same time, it is a good idea and I can look into it.
3. Mentioning those tracks, I may collapse the first 6 rounds, and run the two enduros last, that way I can fit those tracks in because they're some pretty important and favourite tracks around these parts.
4. As for the support, the builds have already been done up for the support series and they all lap within very similar times as far as I am aware from my testing. Keep that idea though mate, you could run a 90s German Sports Car event on here if you felt like it
OP will be updated with updated rounds and qualifying sessions added, please note the OP will be subject to change.
Also, I will need people to help me test/do some practice races in a group as I will be testing whether the tracks I've chosen will work with a full lobby and varying skill levels. So post up if you like what you see!
