My new Race Simulator
We're all race game tragics on OZFM and happy to admit it.
Many of us use race wheels and pedals because we enjoy the racing better that way.
But it does make the game a bit more complicated because you need some sort of race simulator to get the most from your wheel and pedals.
As a wheel user I've built and used a few temporary race rigs in the past 3 years.
All of them have been basic quick builds to get me racing with whatever wheel setup and seat I've been using at the time.
None of them have ever had a decent driving seat or position adjustments in the frame.
As I don't have a permanent games room my rigs need to be portable and compact, so I can keep them in the family room without taking up too much space.
While there are some good simulators on the market none of them have ever satisified the needs and wants I put together for my preferred race rig.
So about 18 months ago I started thinking about building a full lightweight simulator with a decent seat.
Then when I bought my Fanatec GT2 wheel and Clubsport pedals last year the requirements went up market a bit. i.e.they got more complicated.
But eventually I put together a simulator designed to do what I need and want.
I started buying bits and pieces in December and building the rig in January,
have been test driving it for about 3 weeks and finished the last piece of the jigsaw yesterday.
I don't want to think how many hours have gone into the design, engineering and construction. Lets just say it was a lot!
The rig is built in two main sections on a steel frame with aluminium floor, mounting plates and cover plates.
The simulator frame slides into the seat base to make it compact for storage and easy to extend when I want to use it.
The frames sit on cork pads which provide grip so it doesn't move around during use.
The complete simulator weighs about 33kg, without driving wheel and pedals.
There is 200mm height, 100mm reach and 30+ degrees tilt adjustment on the wheel.
The seat has about 250mm travel and has adjustable cushion and backrest angle.
The clubsport pedals are held in place by a retaining plate, no bolts required.
The pedals can be shifted sideways on the base plate to centre them for 3 pedal (forza) or 2 pedal (F1) use.
The fanatec sequential shifter is mounted on the wheel base plate, while the H pattern mounts on the seat base.
Both shifters can be easily removed when not in use (both are mounted in the attached pics).
What you won't see in the pics is the lift and movement system under the seat base.
Its operated by a small lever which lifts the seat base about 5mm on a set of castors, the same lever locks the rig in extended position.
When its lifted I can easily extend or close the frame and move the rig for use or storage.
All cables and power supply are fitted/concealed in the front section and the power cable plugs in through an opening in the rear of the seat base.
Setting up the rig for use or putting it back for storage takes about a minute.
I could say I think its ok, but actually I think its a whole lot better than that, for what I want.
So here are some pics of the new race simulator, designed and built by iWolf.

Re: My new Race Simulator
Thanks guys,
really appreciate your feedback, specially since its all positive.
Now coupla things about some comments...
RU said "no stubby holder..."
- Maaaate, you know me, I don't drink while I'm driving, only between races when the steward brings the drinks trolley around.
Dazza said "Why no lumbar support or centre console."
- Dazza, my backs shagged beyond any help from lumbar supports.
As for centre consoles, it is a single seater mate! But maybe a side console would be ok, and then I could fit a drink holder, which would make RU happy. Hmmmm, watch this space.
Teeroy said "Have a comp to see what the chair came out of"
-Now thats an idea I can run with. New topic coming up...
Stikman said "Give up your day job and hire some foreign workers"
- Now there's another good idea! I've already given up work and it feels
Greeaaat!. I hope you don't mean adult entertainment "foreign workers" stik?

Mostly I take orders from my team manager, you know what I mean.
As far as building rigs for others, we could talk about that.

Actually I enjoy being jobless, so maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

Re: My new Race Simulator
I should very much like to know what it would cost to get u to put one of these together for me mate, including man hours. I'm looking at getting one of these for myself and would rather spend the cash on something made by yourself than giving the money to someone I don't know and who don't care about me liking their product or not.
So if your interested mate then let me know. I can give you at least $35 for it, maybe even go as high as $45-46. Jokes mate. Let me know.
P.S it looks awesome.

Thanks manic, very flattered that you think its something you'd be interested in.
Right now I'm on some other missions for my team manager. So couldn't do anything short term. Obviously there's issues of what you actually want in your rig and the cost to build it.
Whats your time frame for getting something built?
