Headphones for Xbox?
OK, these may sound like some noobish questions but I have never really ventured into the world of headphones before... I just simply use the el-cheapo Xbox headset for occasional online play.
I am hoping to finally play a decent amount of FM4 over the holidays, but want to be able to hear the cars etc without my wife complaining "it's too loud".
Following is ideally what I would like from a set of headphones but not sure if it's possible, so was hoping the knowledgeable OZFM folk would be able to offer some words of wisdom.
Wish list:
1. To be used as headset for online play, but with in-game sounds and voice coming though headphones.
2. In-game sound through headphones for single player play.
3. Listen to music/movies played through Xbox.
4. Price limit about $150ish.
5. Wired or wireless... I am not sure?
Items 1 - 3 may be normal for headphones?... or maybe I am dreaming? Is such a thing possible and if so, what do people recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
Have a look at the headsets here.
http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/xbox-gaming-headsets.aspx
and here:
http://www.trittontechnologies.com/prod/xbox.asp
Might want to try other online stores like Amazon for cheaper prices.

Easy answer is Turtle Beach:
http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/xbox-gaming-headsets.aspx
You can sometimes pick them up REAL cheap from EBGames or JB. Otherwise use shopbot to look at online prices.

PS - oh snap! :-)

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
get some x31's from turtle beach $140 (eb sell them or maybe cheaper online).....will do everything you want and won't disappoint like the cheaper ones
they are great for a starter pair of solid performing headphones...anything less and it's a waste of money.
I've had mine for 4 years and they only broke cause of the kids .... should have put them higher up
getting a pair of xp500 just before the new year ...can't wait

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
Thanks for the feedback so far guys.
Just doing some searching and reading now. The Turtle Beach headsets do seem to be trumping the Tritton items at this stage and I am really liking the look of the Earforce X41's. A little bit over the initial budget but I think I am getting swayed by the 7.1 surround sound.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
I don't understand the whole 7.1 thing.
If you only have two speakers (which the headphones do), then how can you call it 7.1? You can only hear a left and a right source. Sure, you can run a phantom centre, but you can't distinguish between front and rear.
Can you? Or am I missing something?

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
The Tritton 5.1 headsets actually have 4 speakers in each earpiece, but it seems the Turtle Beach headsets only have 1 speaker per earpiece... so yeah, not sure how you get 7.1 surround sound out of that?

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
My experience has been nothing but pain with PX21's, my initial and replacement pair both broke in the same spot. No i didn't handle them rough.
What i want is for M$ to make the 360 compat with Logitechs G35's.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
I have decided to go with the X41's. GAME has Turtle Beach headsets on special, so it was an offer too good to refuse really.
For anyone else in the market for a headset, check out Game's prices here> http://www.game.com.au/search?search=turtle%20beach

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
Hey, I've got a different question here, I would really like a better headset also but only for in-game chat. I have a very nice Stereo system all set up for the game sounds (V8s have never sounded better) but I find the standard Microsoft headset a little cruddy most of the time. I also have a very awesome fiancé who doesn't mind the racket.
So I guess what I'm asking is; what is the best headset for easy and good quality in-game chat. Wireless preffered but I don't mind having the cable from my wheel either. Just not a cable from the xbox really which is quite far away.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
I swear by my M$ headset, never had a problem with it. I have had problems talking to people with the TB X41, lots of background noise, usually too loud, some feedback at times. It is for those reasons I would not buy a TB headset.
Maybe the new one with wifi chat, I would be interested to heard feedback from anyone that has one of those.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
Seano X41s are a steal at the price Game are selling them for
I've had my pair of X41's for about 2 years now and they continue to work well. Bought them OS through eBay before anyone was bringing them into OZ. You'll find my original review somewhere around on the forum.
The sound quality is excellent and even though there are is only one speaker each side they do manage to shape the sound so it tricks your brain into thinking a sound comes from in front or behind you.
Only one word of advice, get yourself 2 sets of good quality rechargeable AAA batteries and keep the spare set charged and ready to go. That way you can always start a long session on XBL with fresh batteries and you wan't have any drama with batteries going flat during the session.

Interesting you have the X41's wolf, I dont really have any problems with the way I hear you on XBL, must be the way you have the settings.

Would that only be, if you use wifi to connect your xbox to the world?

I couldn't say about settings Dazza, don't think I've done anything particular.
There's not that much to change really and I take it as a good sign if I get chat volume right, lol. Mic position might make a difference?
The only other thing I can think about feedback is the mic boom can come loose and that causes feedback. But you'd expect that to be momentary because it usually happens just before it falls out and then you have no chat at all.

Re: Headphones for Xbox?
I've got 31's and the only interference i have had is popping from the modem when my wife is on fb or whatever as she loads photos through the wireless to the laptop. Moved the modem about another 2 metres from the turtle beach transmitter and didnt get it anymore. Love those headsets just dont get to use them as much as the mini me's get up to too much trouble if im not listening for them.
