Well, it is pretty much as expected, and upgrade to the 2010 version.

I have only played it so far for about an hour, and spent most of that time trying set up the wheel (Fanatec GT2) The force feedback is very heavy out of the box, and I have turned it to almost off. I am also using drift mode 3, just to try and make the wheel feel lighter, mode 4 just made it a bit too uncontrolable. I am still not happy with the wheel/game settings but will keep playing with them.

I can not seem to work out how to change views, I am using the one that puts you behind the driver. Would be nice to see what the in car view looks like. I have a feeling with the wheel you simply run out of buttons to change the view on the fly. I have remapped the look left/right to the fanantec's look left/right buttons, not that I really need that when stuck in the view I am in.

I think it is a big improvement with the menu system.

I am looking forward to the CoOp Career mode though, that should be fun watching clarkson test all the new parts. Embarassed

The sound seems a bit umm... unrealistic for me, but I am playing it using the TV speakers.

Nice filler while I wait for Forza 4 and to give a break when FM4 does come out.

anyway, have some lunch then might start the single player career.

PS: I will move all other threads regarding F1 2011 to this folder that I have renamed from F1 2010 to Formula 1.

Yeah, I remember trying F1 2010 with the Fanatec wheel a few weeks ago and being amazed at how unbelievable shithouse it was. I tried a few different settings on the wheel but nothing fixed it. I'm thoroughly delighted to hear this one is the same... Rolling Eyes

Do you still randomly spin when you touch a curb at low speed? And can you now correct a slide without it spearing you in the opposite direction?

The handling is much better than 2010, just finished my first GP. I think I now have the wheel set up to my liking.

One thing Clarkson will be happy about... it still randomly freezes, but I dont think it is as bad. It does not freeze for any where near as long, just a split second, and only did it about 3 times during the practice/qualifying/race weekend.

I wonder if the CoOp career mode lets you play against other CoOp teams... That would be cool.

Wow. These cars are not for the faint of heart. Just had my first go last night. I decided I wanted to just launch into it with no assists at all. Glad I have, as the braking line for me seems to detract from the great atmosphere of the already, IMO stunning graghics.

Once I got my wheel feeling sort of OK ( still some fine tuning to go) the cars felt pretty good to drive. I liked the handling, and feel that with time you could settle into the car and start having more fun.

Also, learning new tracks combined with the speed of these machines is daunting but I think it might be rewarding in the end.

A bit concerned that I might be spreading myself too thin between this and Forza to really get comfortable with the shift in dynamics between the two, but for now it's a bit of a thrill to drive these cars.

yeah the cars feel MUCH deeper in the handling, and the way the bodywork moves around is more convincing. still a choppy framerate like 2010's but nothing serious. the cars look great but the environments have lost some detail. can't wait to see how it goes at the last chicane at Catalunya, the way it spun-out unconvincingly nearly everytime in 2010 is gone i hope. i'm still going to enjoy this i think, the physics feel a heap sweeter.

started my career with Lotus cause i'm a sucker for punishment Razz

Yes, I took the tightarse option too!! Can't wait to get my hands on it though. Maybe we can organise some casual and/or serious racing once everyone has a copy and is up to speed with the controls etc!?!

The other thing I have done with the GT2 is remap the drs and kers buttons

Y = DRS
X = KERS

But may even swap them around yet and make KERS on the Y button, because I use that more. Smile

maybe a little too much Embarassed

Laugh, yep that tightarse option basically gets me every third game free when you compare to aussie prices of $90 and the limited edition copies often only cost $2 - $5 more compared to $20 - $30 more in oz. Works well given I quite often purchase games for my kids as well.
F1 2011 with turtlebeach x11's cost $105 delivered.

Yeah I now buy all my games from o/s (ozgameshop or zavvi) unless I go the 3-4-1 trade at JB. Although I did preorder FM4 at Mightyape cause I want it on release! Like you, I buy games for my kids too, so you gotta cut down the costs where you can! Wink

playing this online is a good option as the AI is something they obviously didn't work on since 2010.

I can't stand racing online. I alway get punted off on the first or second corner by all the Vettel and Alonso wannabes Evil or Very Mad

On another note, Dazz and I started co-op championship last night. Talk about fun with the different stratergies and having to save fuel which I didn't. Running out of fuel 3 corners from the end isn't fun Embarassed

The Co-Op Champinioship is just awesome, as Clarkson says ^^

Clarkson and I started out doing the short weekend championship with 20% race distance, which gave us a 1 hour practice session, a 20 minute qualifying, and a 12 lap race around Albert Park.

The pressure was on from the start of practice, while we were competing as a team, we were also competing against each other. Sitting in the pits with our monitors on the lap scoring sheets... waiting for one of us to make a move, all the while getting in some much needed practice. The hour flew past.

Qualifying; I think I went out first to put in a banker on option tires while clarkson waited a bit longer running prime tires and getting in some practice. I realised I made a lot of laps on the options, so decided to throw on a new set of primes to scrub them in before the race. Then put on a new set of options to try and have a fresher set of tires for the start of the race. Clarkson spent most of the time on primes, thowing on some options for a last minute dash, only to get held up in traffic and did not get a better time than one put down earlier on the prime tires.

One thing we did not realise was the tire sets were reset after each session, so I had no need to scrub in the primes. I did my best qualifying lap on options, and Clarkson was on primes, and that is what we had to start the race on. We choose to run the AIs on intermediate for our firsat championship, in hind sight we should have choosen proffessional as we did gain the first 2 spots on the grid. At least we will get the drivers and manufacturers championship... next time we will bump up the AIs to the next level.

The race was intense, not so much in close racing, but more so in strategy. With me starting on options, I made about 6 seconds on Clarkson by the time we made our pitstops. I pitted on lap 7, rejoining in 3rd place i think behind webber with clarkson in 1st. Clarkson and Webber pitted and put me back in the lead. Clarkson now on options came out of the pits about 4 seconds behind me and I was now on primes. Well it took Clarkson about 3 laps to catch me and I later learnt he turned his fuel up to rich. I could see him catching my on the gap times, and with the prime tires there was nothing I could do but hope if he did catch me, he still had to get around me.

Clarkson was right behind me with just over a lap to go, true to form the my game froze and clarkson simply drove through me. Stupid F1 2010 bug still not fixed. Ok so I am going to get second... but wait Clarkson is slowing down... did he feel sorry for me? coming around the last corner, I though ok I will throw everything at this, DRS open while changing into 4th gear on the exit, and held the KERS on and just preyed I has enough KERS left to make the pass. As it turned out Clarkson did have a proble and I made the pass easily to take the win.

Later I found out that he had his fuel mixture on rich and rand out of fuel, thinking back, he did catch me rather quickly.

If only you set that fuel mixture about half a lap later, it may have been a very different result.

I have to say that was intence... I was sweeting by the end of the race.

Great fun Clarkson. Thanks.

I know what you meant about the wheel feeling HEAVY in this game.

For some reason I can't read the codemasters forum It just times out. is the magical setting for the xbox damper set to -3 and spring set to +1 on the GT2?
I find it strange because these settings arn't even supposed to do anything with the xbox.
