Well I was looking forward to E.S.O.....
Soo they expect us to pay a hundred bucks for their game, Plus 80 bucks per year for gold (ok ok 50-80 per year) AND they want to charge us 20 bucks PER MONTH just to play one game!!! I love elder scrolls but that is some serious Bullsh*t! Is it just me or is that utter crap? Why the fee seriously? Any mmo guys care to explain what it adds to the gameplay? I feel kind of outraged at bethesda right now and I want to send them some hate mail

I've never played mmo's to any great length, so I can't comment on what pricing structures work best. But I have been watching the developments of this game carefully, have spent hours in skyrim and oblivion.
My suggestion is to read what some people have written about it on UESPwiki forums. Some people appear to be for it, others against it.

No extra fee for online for PS4 players, blame Microsoft for that, but from what i hear on the PC side its not even worth it anyway. The only MMO i've put any decent amount of time into is Planetside 2 and thats a F2P so eh.

Re: Well I was looking forward to E.S.O.....
I read a while back that the monthly fee is to keep the game going, unlike say forza that you have to pay for DLC packs the DLC will be free content included with the monthly fee - it also pays for the servers and maintenance.
Makes a lot of sense really as you cant have different people with different content in a MMO - cant even have a different game build - all have to be on one version as it is server based.
Its not like forza that says "you dont have this content" and makes it blank, it cant have a massive empty plain of nothing in place of what is ment to be a new area added to discover.

Some information about the so-called Free to Play model
Free to Play means that all players can play the game for free, without paying a regular subscription fee. But F2P MMORPGs are not absolutely free. You must understand that at the end of the day a game is made in order to make the developers a profit. It is a business and if the game exists it must generate revenue. That’s why high level F2P games aren't absolutely free. For example players will have to buy updates with new content. Many F2P games tend to rewards those with the biggest wallets rather than the most skill. Now you know that the so-called “Free to Play” model is not absolutely free. FTP and Subscription-based games both require money. They just use different ways of getting it.
Can Elder Scrolls Online be free to play?
Now this is a serious question. If we assume that TES MMORPG will be a huge and long term project the answer is “No”. Elder Scrolls Online will hardly use F2P model. There are several reasons:
Subscription-based games generate more revenue in the long term, but to justify this such projects must also be extensive and progressive. Only an interesting game can stimulate players to pay a regular fee and players have to feel that it's worth paying. Elder Scrolls Online will be a huge long term project. There is no doubt that the game will also be innovative. From these two points alone it's unlikely that it will be F2P.
The F2P model is often used because it is easier to attract new players and for obvious financial reasons is a more attractive option for some people. But we do not think that TES Online will have problems with new subscribers. TES is a popular franchise and many people around the world are eagerly awaiting its release. Popularity is another one of the main reasons for using a Subscription model in ESO.
If Elder Scrolls Online uses a subscription-based model ZeniMax will guarantee further game developments, meaning, we will see quality updates and interesting content post release. Developers will be able to create high quality updates because subscription-based games generate more revenue. More revenue means better content and updates. The MMO leader, World of Warcraft, is not free to play. That’s why new WOW updates are usually great.

more:
The Elder Scrolls Online requires a monthly subscription fee because its planned regular content updates are more than just "a new sword or a funny hat," says Bethesda.
Speaking to Gamespot, Bethesda's vice president Pete Hines said the monthly fee will allow for the frequent and consistent release of substantial new content for the massively-multiplayer online RPG in development at Zenimax Online.
"We want to do the version that we think is the best game and the coolest experience," says Hines.
"And that means putting a lot of people and a lot of content creators towards having stuff that comes our regularly; every four weeks, five weeks, six weeks. Big new stuff that you want to do.
"It is a massive, 'Go where you want, do what you want' game that we think offers the kind of experience that's worthy of a subscription.
"We're very confident in our ability to support it with content. And not content of the magnitude of, it's a new month, here's a new sword or here's a funny hat - but content that is real and significant and it feels like regular and consistent DLC releases."

Re: Well I was looking forward to E.S.O.....
$20 per month...$240 per year. Over $300 to play one game for a year. $5 a month i could understand but $20. Good lord they would want to personally deliver the "content" in a golden casket cos im pretty sure thats what the devs will be getting buried in after they have padded their bank accounts with our hard earned dollars

The devs have been at odds with microsoft with it too.
they want to charge the 12 per month, understandable as even wow works out to be around 16 per month. But xbox want there piece of the pie so they up'd it to 20 and then expect you to pay for gold too.
Its microsoft causing the issues not bethesda soft.
