The Elder Scrolls Online Empty Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

Post by NoRecoil Thu Feb 13, 2014 4:26 pm

Keen, been watching a number of reviews and there's something funny about the pre-order package that dosen't add up.

Basically the entire Elder Scrolls community raged at the publisher about "Exclusive" content parts from the Limited and Collectors editions, including:

1. Being able to use any race on any side, sounds fun, but it ruins the story line and whole point of the game, it needs the factions with set races to work properly. - sounds like it will be removed from the pre-order packs

2. Only being able to play as an Imperial if you got the "Collectors Imperial Edition" (different to the other Limited Edition and about $20 more, you also get a pet crab), this is massively hypocritical on there site - the opening line on the pre-order page is "Choose your own Destiny" Locking out a single race makes it so you cant choose the Imperials, so it should read "Sort of Choose your own Destiny, but have more options if your willing to pay more for our game" - They have been slammed for this one too so the pre-order packs may change.

Its a bit of a rant, but ill still end up getting it. Ill end up enjoying the game either way.

Mr G will love it

Still $15 a month, but for some may be the only game they ever play..

you have to pay on everything - all platforms.

no different to any other MMO - think WOW, Starwars: The Old Republic, D&D Online and Warhammer online

$15 is nothing really, about 50c a day to play

No what I was getting at. You don't have to pay to play online games on pc, you only have to pay for those certain games. Where as for that game on console your paying for the online gameplay as well as the online console play. So Its kinda doubling the payment... Don't get me wrong I can afford it and if the reviews are good ill.most likely get it but it just comes off as greedy

They have nothing to do with each other!

Gold LIVE: Pay subscription for online content - this covers security of your account, networking fees for everything from the dashboard design to party chat etc.

ESO: Pay subscription - rather then Expansions or DLC packs - the constant $15 per moth goes toward all the running and designing of the future game.

Simply, Microsoft wont pay someone else's bills

Lol that's what I'm saying lol, just saying that, its silly we have to pay twice to play one game. Only need to pay Xbox live to play forza online. Lol that's all, just my opinion in thinking its silly

Lol, I will say it, it is dam frustrating that you have to pay a monthly subscription that's $15, which is $180 a year, can add.. PLUS your yearly xbox live of $50 + and is now $230 + a year to play the one game if that's all you wanted to play on Xbox Live, The game itself should be cheaper than your normal run of the mill xbox live games upon release so that's a good thing.

So apart from the large expense per year to play just one game on the console and the feeling from console users of a double dip into our pockets it may be worth it, for a few months..

I would like to try the game and think it will be good but am concerned about the ongoing cost per month per year for just one game, so it might be a buy try for a bit, unless it is amazingly good I think there may be quite few console players doing the same.  Unless of course it becomes a go to game in between Forza, PCars, COD, BF, Titanfall, Destiny, Watchdogs, (I think you see the point)

Ongoing subscriptions is just part of the PC MMO model there is a reason for it, it is certainly better than the other option of micro payments and pay to win models. Constant maintenance of a MASSIVE server environment with minimal latency across the entire infrastructure and constant updates and support needed. The model while very profitable if successful, is in many ways the fairest model and that ESO will be releasing content updates every 6 weeks they say it's pretty good value unlike WoW which has in nearly 10 years released 3 expansions at $50 a pop plus subscription. The MS Live cost is an MS infrastructure cost, ESO probably should be exempt from Gold and should work on Silver but I'm betting that's a M$ grab for money not Bethesda. Anyway you play other games online for the Gold Live so not seeing the issue there. If you want to see a very successful Subscription there is Eve Online there are people in the game that don't pay for their subscription because the earn plex from ingame sales and pay for the time that way, plus you get two major updates every year for free... That one works. Check out the articles on their single server farm for one Galaxy 2 games and look at the challenges they have overcome from having 200 people in one solar system and grinding top a halt to now having a 4000 Person space battle in one solar system its a masterful design and well ahead of it's time.

Anyway ESO is pretty good having being a big fan of Morrowind and Oblivion somewhat and definitely Skyrim it's a great game that does work way better with mates. I don't know if we will all be on the same instances in the MegaServers together but if so I look forward to playing with you. I'm on PC =)

I think the key difference here is that XBLG is a cost that is grudgingly accepted for online MP. Lets not forget that XBL is the ONLY online service that holds apps such as facebook, youtube, netflix and whatnot behind a paywall when pretty much all smart TV's do this for free by default. Value for money is also questionable given that there is no PS+ style online game collection system in place. XBL has always been a cash grab, but its been the only way to play online so people pay the cost (myself included for the past 4-5 years).

The combination of XBL service + ESO subscription is new, to my knowledge nothing like this has ever happened before. Microsoft would be wise to waive the cost of XBLG for ESO, or work with Bethesda to offer a cheaper price for the game itself given the XBLG cost, as this won't help put Xbones into homes.
