Re: Playstation 4
As much as i want to believe thats what games are gonna look like, after the PS3 pre-rendered trailer debacle, i'm holding my breath.
Meanwhile, on PC in Crysis 3....
edit: Have you seen the controller? Looks as bulky as a first gen xbox pad. But at least its got something resembling a proper trigger that will actually be useful rather than detrimental.

Re: Playstation 4
It makes me laugh actually
Brief Specs
Hypercharged PC architecture, Enhanced PC GPU... It's really an 8 core APU with 8GB unified RAM but GDDR5... But basically it's a PC. Nothing wrong with this, I like the fact I just plug in and drive on Forza, especially after last weekend of faffing around with setting up Raceroom and Pcars. The Ports and development of PS4 games won't suck as much as they currently do and will be easier to develop for or port to/from. It's why the Xbox was such a success this generation. But the next Xbox specs sound very similar.
What the PS4 doesn't have is Directx support I imagine.
And Watch Dogs will be best on PC without doubt

Re: Playstation 4
The rumour mill on the Xbox is 8 core @ 1.6ghz, 8Gb Ram, 500GB HDD, improved builtin/bundled Kinect. Based on the Dev Durango kits out there with and from ever digging press...
And this breaks it down pretty well
I don't think there'll be much in it at the end of the day... Xbox will have the lead purely because of this Gen success but look at how epically Sony failed this time round and how dominant they were last Gen. Lessons learned, on Sony's side clearly, what M$ will do will be interesting...

The only thing stopping Sony from getting the upper hand was the online support. It was complete and utter shit.

Well that and it was very difficult to develop for, and port to or from... perfect example if Skyrim DLC, a year late?

XBL isn't much better, its only the fact that you can send voice messages and its got cross game party chat that makes the difference, and i refuse to believe thats what my 50 bucks worth in subscription goes to.
Playing online and chatting with friends should be free. Period.

Re: Playstation 4
Bit of a slide for PS4...
PS4: No external storage, PC streaming, MP3s
We already knew that new-generation games are big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is 40GB, brought down from 290 at one point in development. We thought this would just be a problem for people with limited bandwidth or capped plans, but now it seems the impact will be greater: PlayStaion 4 does not support external hard drives.
The good news - bear with me - is that you can replace the console's internal hard drive, as long as it fits a number of criteria. It must be no thicker than 9.5mm and larger than 160GB, for a start. This can be used to replace the 5400 RPM SATA II HDD that ships with the console, if you're the sort of person who likes to tinker with things.
...and even if you're not, you might find you have to do it anyway. All PS4 games will use a chunky piece of the hard drive to cache data, providing a smooth gaming experience. Killzone: Shadow Fall is not the only game around that size, either: Battlefield 4 is 35GB, Knack is 37GB, and rumours put Call of Duty: Ghosts at a whopping 49GB. It won't take too many of those to eat up all your available storage space.
Sony's also revealed that while you can rent games on disc, play them and then decide to purchase a copy, it won't be a smooth transition. The disc install data (presumably including any of your progress) must be deleted before you install the new, digital version, which must be downloaded in its entirety.
Other things that are upsetting potential PS4 fans: The new console is stepping away from its predecessor's "media centre" label. You will not be able to play MP3s or audio CDs on your new games machine. It will play DVD and Blu-ray movies, but it no longer features DLNA support, so you won't be able to stream videos or other media from your home PC.
This, combined with the lack of backwards compatibility, is adding up to a whole bunch of niggling factors that might knock the PS4 down a peg or two, even before we get to the games

Re: Playstation 4
This would have to be 50% of the 360's usage right now and from the info at hand the ONE will do the same. I was all for the ONE for the games and features so this move by Sony really has locked in my decision long term now. A PS3, when very cheap, is still on the cards for those special games like Last of Us for me and Little Big Planet for my daughter.Dektra wrote:Bit of a slide for PS4...

All for the games and the features... The PS4 lacks both for me.

I know this is an Xbox forum BUT it did say something similar is coming to Microsoft AND it's Francis which was pretty funny.
Any way made me laugh and look forward to learning more about this from Microsoft and what they have planned for us.

Re: Playstation 4
Uh, if there was anything solid about MS doing a VR, it would be all over r/games. Sony's VR has been hinted at for ages now, just that GDC was the confirmation. Not saying they can't do it, just that theres not even a rumour. Currently the rumour for MS is Augmented Reality, not VR. Also, heres the prototype
Regardless, VR is what i've considered for a while now to be the "next big thing". Sony has to be really really REALLY careful with their implementation, as it could be really easy to screw up if they release it to market in a state that consumers pass off as a gimmick. Believe it or not Oculus has had to work hard to get the concept of VR to a point where it has popular support, and where Valve is intimately involved with the development process on the software side. It could be all too easy to just slap in VR functionality like everyone did with 3D gaming as a gimmick and damage the concept beyond repair.
They also have to worry about compatibility. These headsets aren't going to be cheap, and they're going to directly compete with each other as they're the only two sets in existence. Rift already has a vast amount of compatible titles on steam. I sincerely doubt people are going to buy a peripheral that has zero PC compatibility for one or two games.
The real problem is that Valve has done a lot of market research on VR, and has come to several conclusions;
The PS4 is good....but i don't think it can hit a fps of 95 consistently at 1080p.

I've been keeping a eye out, ouch! With the Oculus Rift, currently taking pre-orders for the new dev kit2, shipped july. sorry lazy, but google it for specs, no where near the consumer product but a far cry from the original dev kit one. $350 us, + shipping and only pc compatable ( dev kit) final product will be all platforms.
