To X41 or not to X41 ?? Empty To X41 or not to X41 ??

Post by Don Stylz Wed Sep 07, 2011 10:54 am

Im thinking of purchasing the X41 turtlebeach headset.. wonding if anyone in the forums own and use them and are they worth the $$$ .. also how do they go with the fanatec wheels.. as i know headphones dont work all the best when plugged into the wheel. are the X41's completely wireless.. as if im correct the X31's plug into the controler itself.. or should i just stick to the standard microsoft wireless headset.. ??

as i found a seller in the UK who is selling them quite cheep.. $100 for the headset ( brand new ) and $40 shipping to aust. $140 total to your door seems to be a good price compared to EB's or JB's . is it worth the buy as i dont know anyone who have them which i could have a go of to see how they proform and if its worth the buy..

Unit Stylz! i have the 41's and im torn between a great purchase and a piece of battery abusing, tangle causing device that warms my ears.

The sound experience is awesome no question, you will hear sounds you didnt know were in game..i mean any game too.
sounds come from left right behind front, its great
if you want to crank the sound without annoying the household great,
if oyu want the household to be able to call out to you and you hear them, not great, you wont hear anythign else (unless low volume, i sometimes put them around my neck to hear both in game and ambient sounds)
Yes you have to plug them into controller/wheel (which is shit), works ok with my MS wheel but the connection is a little loose and i echo at times but a quick wriggle and were good to go.
If you get the 41'sGet some rechargeable aaa batteries and a charger, they suck batteries better than my sons lightsaber and there no warning prior to it just dropping out.
The xbl chat v game volume works very well and fully adjustable
the biggest gripe for me is the changeover on the rear of the xbox itself. Where your plug in is you will have an orange plug in for sound into the grey cable input, the 41's require a diff cable to go into this for them to work (all comes in the 41 box) but if you want to go back to "screen sound" you have to change it back and forth each time so access to the rear of your xbox is required.
A separate little box/plug in/stand thingo is hard to place in a tight area

in summary
They are great... but you will swear at them no doubt.

Think I was the first OZFM mbr to buy X41s and still say they're great headset, excellent speaker quality and still going strong after 18mths.

BUT...

I agree with Mr T about them being ear warmers etc.
Definitely buy rechargeable AAAs to run them. I use eneloops and have 2 sets to work with.

The headset makes a g*d awful feedback noise when the batteries go flat while in use. Rips the ears apart. Sad

WORST...
There are question marks over their compatibility with the Fanatec wheels.
I've hade several disconnects of the GT2 wheel from online games while using my X41s, so has RU four 86 using the same.
RU has also seen posts online about similar problems from other gamers.
I haven't looked into it yet. no time at present.
Edit: I also have problems with game chat sound quality when using the headset with the GT2.
Though its fine in XBL party .

Great headset, but things to think about out before you buy.

In my X41s there's a really nasty feedback type buzz in the headset for a coupe of seconds as the batteries die. Hurts the eardrums! You don't have that? Maybe mine are faulty.

I've had some for a couple of weeks - found some that I got cheap because of a damaged box at EB.

Agree with Wolfie and Teeroy about batteries - rechargeables are an absolute necessity, and make sure you have two sets, because there's really no warning that they're going flat.

I've only been through one set of rechargables, but I've never had the weird feedback thing that you're getting Wolfie, and I haven't had a wheel disconnect since I moved my XBOX closer to my wheel.

It may be that I'm missing something, but plugging them into a Fanatec wheel it seems that the mic is overly sensitive - to the point where I've got the mic against the top of my head, and it's still picking up the sound of me using the pedals... I'm not sure if its the same on a standard controller yet.

Really do wish Logitech made their G35's 360/PS3 compat...

I've got PX21's, i'm on my second pair as the first broke within the first few months. Now they are a different model, but be very gentle with them unless others say otherwise.

I get that too with the X31's when the batteries are just dying...happens for a few seconds then dead

my x31's have broken.....well the mic has, still use it for sound

I'm getting a new pair...maybe the x41's ...but Turtle Beach are releasing a new model next month for Modern Warefare 3

Australian Distributor HERE

pricey...yes.....but worth it in my house so not to wake the family

No comfort that you get the feedback as well Danno, but at least its not just my set.

EB Games ahve a new TB model listed online "Ear Force Delta" $328.00 not released yet. is that the one?

I'll need convincing that they're compatible with a GT2 wheel before I buy anything else wireless.

yeh that's the one.....Ear Force Delta are updated MW3 versions of X41's

...a lot of blokes I know with the X31's and X41's have that feedback just before the battteries die....I just re-charge after every use and have spares so it doesn't happen often...always start play with a fully charged set

I have a set of TB PX5's, Can't say have had the problems mentioned above, tho do remember a couple of drop outs while using the head set but could of been the MS wheel doing its thing. They use 2 AA Batteries with about 10-12 hours life span maybe more. And pretty comfortable.

My only gripe is I dont use them enough for racing games,(stupid MS wheel and the buzz it generates even with microsoft chat head set) but for FPS awsome.

Don
ultimately they will rocks your socks off and make any game experience better , but they do have some issues.
if im playing games just for myself (ie tuesday night series racing or Shooters, nba etc) they are on
general fun games i go via the screen sound.
They are kick arse and if you dont have a killer sound system then get them

Ive got X11's - No problems to report apart from a humming when you have the controller on the charger.
Oh and clarkson's belches will blast your ear drums out if he's using his wheel.

i have got 31's and think that they are very much worth the money if you dont have to be involved in the world outside of your xbox when u r playing. good for cod in found. i have them connected and also my surround sound connected through the same adaptor and have found in the last 6 months though that i havent used them. Funnily enough 6 months is also the same age as our youngest child Very Happy although mw3 is on its way and i am definately going to be using them for skyrim. thumbs up on the rechargeables
