I racing has a system in place to deter players from cheating/cutting corners or even dropping tires. Forza does not have any deterrent other than sticky grass, but I think tires are a better option.

Had a quick look the other week' they have a special subscription for 1 mth, $5, you get 7 or so cars, and 5 track, ( don't quote me) extra tracks are $11 and cars $7 from memory.

Bathurst wasn't out then, coming soon! But they did have Philip Island.

Was thinking of giving it a go about Xmas, to see what it was like

Cheers RU but im talking about the entire package including gaming computer to run it as required.

Im wanting to know what it costs to go sim racing on XB1 vs PC from scratch i.e. i have nothing but a tv/screen.
eg below using non accurate nor checked figures.

XB1 $599
gold membership (12 MONTHS) $149
fm5 $120
Steering Wheel inc pedals(type to be determined) $600??
52 weeks worth of chicken rolls and chips to eat mid race over the headset chat $517.40
TOTAL $1985.40

PC I have no idea????

a decent gaming pc will set you back around $1500 for a mid range

you can go budget for around $800 bucks, but that won't have a decent enough card for some games.

plus then you need a decent monitor...probably 3 for racing so thats another 300 bucks each for a decent ips monitor.

then a wheel $$$$

then in a year or 2 it will be outdated and need some new parts Smile

I just finished building a gaming rig for a customer and it set him back $3000 and that was just the box.

just for the graphics card alone you can easily spend from 800 bucks upwards to $1300....and if you go SLi.Crossfire thats double.

not sure what the minimum specs are needed for iracing but I would never go off that and think the system will handle it nicely.

PC gaming all depend on what you want out of it and what you will be playing.....you can go budget and spend what you would on XB1 or go awesome and throw a tonne of money into it.

Hey Guys, been a while since I've been around here - but I've been keeping an eye out for Forza / Xbox info etc.

I saw this thread and thought I'd add my 2c

If you have a half way decent PC (iRacing is quite serviceable even without everything maxed) it's worth giving iRacing a go. I'm fairly certain you can still get 3 months free through the Cadillac Cup Racing page.

iRacing itself can end up being reasonably expensive as you have to pay a licensing fee for every car and track over an above what you get at sign up (5 'road course' cars, 2 oval - 5 left and right turn tracks, 5 oval). Bathurst and most of the tracks are around $14 US and cars are $12. A years subscription costs $99 US, but if you are active in any given series (after the rookie series) you get credits that can be used towards this, and they have sales on black friday where you can get two years for the price of 1.

T - how much it would cost for hardware is a 'how long is a piece of string' question. Like Danno said you could do it on a budget - $800 - $1000 for a PC - hook it up to your TV, plug in your existing wheel, and you're good to go (or thereabouts). I would suggest that anyone give it a go before getting to carried away though - the subscriptions, and the way that iRacing is organised doesn't work well for everyone.

cheers fellas, i just had absolutely no idea about the PC world of gaming and knew it was a "piece of string question" but wanted to see what you guys could advise me on.
I hate the idea of things needing to be upgraded to keep up and that the price of the XB1 will only get you a budget PC vs top of the range console has made my decision i think.
all the iracing extras for cars and tracks is also a put off putting.

goomf i was just guessing? whats 12 months worth anyway? i just do the auto 12 months continuous sign on via XBL? and I did put
"eg below using non accurate nor checked figures"

Thanks fellas, im sure im not the only one who wanted some info on iracing vs XB1 FM5 racing so cheers for the info.

The last 20 or so laps of that race are pretty epic - worth watching from about 2:20 if you don't want to sit through the whole three hours..

I bought a Logitech DFGT for 50 bucks and signed up for the $12 for 3 months offer. Have had 2 races and had my arse handend to me honestly lol. Quite a steep learning curve but i do like the structure of it.
