XBL Update - Racing Wheel Problems Empty XBL Update - Racing Wheel Problems

Post by iWolf Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:37 pm

Hey guys,

I figure most members are aware that an XBL update in June caused serious game wheel performance issues for members who got the update.

The XBL update was withdrawn before all of us got it, and those that didn't thought they were lucky.
Then a week or so later there was a further XBL update that fixed the previous problem and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Well the bad new is, the 2nd update hasn't fixed the problem at all!

Some of you will know from my recent spews/rants/muttering online that I've been having problems with my GT2 wheel since the 2nd update was released (I missed out on the 1st version).

This includes:
- complete momentary loss of FFB
- sustained partial loss of FFB
-wheel pulling steadily to the left or right, but not on maximum strength like you would get with a wheel disconnect.

All these effects require a wheel reset to correct them.

So far I have been targetting the wheel as being the culprit.
But some investigation of online forums today indicates that MANY people are having the same issues as I am.
Forzanet forum LINK
XBOX forum LINK

It turns out that the problem can effect all types of wheels.

Edit: You'll see on the forums that XBox tech are aware and acknowledge that there is a problem and they say they're working on a solution.

The supposed interim solution, for now, is to:
- Turn on the Xbox
- Rebind the wheel to the xbox
- wait AT LEAST 10 minutes before using the wheel
NB The advise from XBOX tech is that the fix should only be required once. But comments on forums suggest it may be required repeatedly. Rolling Eyes

I strongly recommend that anyone having problems with their wheel get onto the Forza and xbox forums and add your voice to the complaints so we might convince M$ to fix it. Evil or Very Mad

Cheers for the info Wolfie - I have experienced pretty much all of these symptoms, and like you blamed the wheel...

The second update did fix *MOST* of my problems that were introduced in the first update, and these have been far less frequent than they were earlier.

From what ive heard from you guys the issues dont start up straight away and you have to restart when you have them - my theory, try turning it off and on again before they happen each time you get back in the lobbie - might help

So I got a reply back via PM on the xbox forum inviting me to join the public beta program to test the new dashboard. I am a little reluctant to do this in case I cannot connect to anyone again... Razz

I do have 2 xbox's so I will update the old one and see if things seem to work ok, not that I have had a HUGE problem with my wheel, however it has done some of the FFB issues just not as often as other people.

I will let you know how it goes, in a few days.

Interesting read and alot of problems with Fanatec and FM4...

Which just keeps making me think who's problem is it really??? We can easily blame MS as we do and they have to provide a fix which they are, but I can't help but look at the bigger picture here, fanatec works well (majority) on other games 360 and across other platforms ie PS3 and PC, sure there is a few bugs, setup issues, faulty merchandise and whinners about everything but mostly it's pretty good, BUT the biggest problems are FM4 with Fanatec, so if the likes of codemaster/ea can get it right or dare I say better, why can't T10, oh it's a MS problem...

The wheel disconnects, but when looking at it perspectivly this has always been an issue even with a MS wheel, so maybe there is something there with compatibility issue's, maybe this even creates the force feedback turning that some encounter, maybe that's the only fix needed.

Is these problems because MS has the problem, or is it because us the consumer outlay big dollars on a peripheral device that doesnt work properly thats not even a MS peripheral but a third party one endorsed by MS that covers 3 different platforms...

I guess what Im suggesting is we cant blame our beloved Forza cause they T10 must of got it right, hey it works well with a controller right, and it surely cant be fanatecs issue cause they done what MS said and really would they ever admit it any way plus we all said how good fanatec is and there wheels and even suggesting that there product has problems would be contrary to our first impressions and ego's so we cant admit that. So it falls on MS to wear the blame and hate mail for a 3rd party peripheral that mostly only has issues in FM4.

My underlying issue here is that the biggest problems with fanatec wheels is with FM4, while other console/platforms and games have teething issues as well and issues that generally get fixed quickly it is no where to the extent that FM4 has, not even in the same playing field and really even when the fanatecs wheels are working well are they that good in FM4 in comparisson to other games and other platforms games, I think not.

So sure a fix by MS is needed so a third party peripheral (fanatec) can work better on FM4 (T10), no doubt there.

All I can say at the end is lets hope T10 and Fanatec get it better when the MS 720 is released, or even better other companys make and release wheels for the MS platform, for added competitiveness in market that is surely needed and wanted.

Sure something needs to be done and posting on the xbox site that's listed is the only way to at this stage, or at the very least the only people listening, so I say good on MS for trying to fix somethng for us it's customers that's not even there's.

* Of course all the above is soley my opinion as always and is and no doubt will be subjected to contrary differing opinions across the board.

SG1 - i think from reading the links provided above its across any wheel manufacturer not just fanatec, so it covers any wheel peripheral.
Either way i just want to make sure my wheel doesnt just disconnect again, ruined my last series hope it dsoesnt do the same again for this series.
Ive not had any FFB issues only total disconnect

ive missed the day to put my GT on the list, heres hoping Dazza and Co can find out how to secure our wheels so they will work properly all the time

T, people are still registering, so put your name down son... just do it!

I finally got on to the Beta test, a guy MUSE23P posted up a fix that worked. Now I just need to get home and register the old white console and wait for the update.

Wolf and Frank, I assume you will get an invite soon. and anyone else that throws their details in the list.

Hey,

I goy my invite to the dashboard beta update.

Has anyone dowloaded AND tried it with FM4 yet?
If so, how did it go for overall dashboard operation and solving the wheel FFB and disconnect problems we've been having in Forza?

I have gone through the hoops to get my xbox in the list to get the dashboard update, just waiting for the xbox live disconnect and "you must update" message.

I was going to wait and let someone else be the guinea pig.
But am curious whether it'll fix the problems.

Reckon I might just go for it as well.

as i said last night... i have 2 xboxes so if it does not work, or stuff something else up, i can just use the other one while they fix it.

Only problem is, I may not be the best to test as I have not had the issues others have had. Well not as often anyway.

Yeah, but its not like M$ to get things wrong is it...
I mean would they really distribute something that doesn't work properly?
Of course not silent

I'll think about it a bit more, but i reckon I'm going to risk it...

Yep, that is why I am only doing the white xbox. Hopefully I will have the update by Monday and I will use that xbox for my V8 Practice session.
