Targa Tasmania 2012
Once again the best motorsport event on our island has arrived again, and once again I've taken a weeks holiday to tag along. This year Recoil and I will be in a more official role this year with assisting in managing multiple stages over the week.
This year we see some exciting new stages including the Lake Primsoll road and the Braddons look out hill climb. (Ask recoil about his Cressida on this stretch
)
Also there will be an additional Pro-log stage at lillydale. This runs down the Lalla Road and across a small bridge (small enough to rip the passenger mirror off the work BT-50
)
Hoping to post up what i can during the event, but i'll start with some of the older stuff from the last few years.
Hope you enjoy

ouch. Way to test a relationship.
Hey guys,
when does the Targa head down south way? I'd love to check some of it out, but work every day prevents a long drive.

"Cleared the first fence, went through the 2nd fence sideways and went through the 3rd fence sideways".
Reminds me of my teenage years except it "Cleared the first fence, went through the 2nd fence sideways and went through the 3rd fence sideways and on fire".
Keep the updates coming boys. Love Targa Tasmania.

Stages link!
Southern stages are on Sunday the 22nd - the link above will have all the info you'll need.
If not just head to http://targatasmania.com.au/Tasmania/targatasmania_home.html and sus out what leg you want to watch.
Most of the stages will be closed to all traffic around 2 hours before the start, the 00 and 0 course cars come through with the first competitive car coming through within 5 mins.
These local guys in there Torona - almost took out the classic trophy last year.

Targa favourite blows engine on event eve
Speedcafe.com wrote:
Targa Tasmania favourite, Jason White, has had a disastrous start to his 2012 campaign, blowing the engine of his Lamborghini Gallardo at the media day activity at Symmons Plains today.
Now the Devonport-based team faces a race against time to get the spare engine ready for the commencement of the rally tomorrow.
If they fail to make it to the start line at the Country Club, White will incur a time penalty that will effectively end his chance of victory.
It was a brand new engine fitted in preparation for this event, but they will now revert to the engine used in securing victory at Targa High Country and Targa Wrest Point earlier in the season.
“I was taking a few punters for an exciting lap or two and I heard a rattling noise and I thought it might have been a drive-line problem,” White said.
“I was driving slowly back to the pits when there was a loud bang and everything just locked up solid on the pit entry road.
“We took it back to the garage and discovered there was a hole blown in the side of the (engine) block.
“All the data suggested the oil pressure was fine, so we’ve got no idea what caused it and we won’t know until after the event now because all our efforts will be concentrated on putting our spare engine in tonight. It’s going to be late one.
“The engine was brand new and had basically only done 120km.
“We drove it from Devonport to Symmons Plains today and only did three or four laps.
“The spare engine is a bit smokey, but the upside is that at least we won Targa High Country and Targa Wrest Point with it.
“But to be honest we had our fingers crossed towards the end of Targa Wrest Point, so we really don’t know how it will go.”

Re: Targa Tasmania 2012
What happenned with that 517 crash? Looked like a tyre blew or something. Cruising in a straight line then sudden swerve to the right...
ahh love that Lambo. Damn sexy cars. Look intense and sound amazing.

Wrong call, navigator mistake/driver mistake. They only finished fixing it from last years off, its been in there family as a race car for 3 generations.
They were letting anyone sit in it for photos up at the silver-dome, nicest guys ive meet on the tour so far and a real shame there out.

Including this Audi that was second, spent close to 2 hours picking up the pieces. No photos though at the drivers request
