FIRST PICS: D’Alberto reveals new look, sponsor

Tony D’Alberto will compete with major backing from HIFLEX Mobile Hose Service for the remaining events in the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship.

After joining the team as the windscreen sponsor in March, HIFLEX Mobile Hose Service upped the ante, taking position on the doors and front and rear bar of the #3 Ford Falcon FG.

The deal with HIFLEX Mobile Hose Service will be launched at this weekend’s ITM400 Hamilton – the last V8 Supercars race on the New Zealand street circuit.

HIFLEX is the mobile supply and service division of Alfagomma Australia – a privately-owned world leader in the development of hose, fittings and assembly systems.

D’Alberto is pleased to have new support for the balance of 2012.

“It is certainly great for us to HIFLEX as a major sponsor involved with our team for the remainder of 2012,” said D’Alberto.

“The new deal gives the team the same look and feel for the rest of the season and are looking forward to showing them what V8 Supercars is all about.

“I’ve had some good results at Hamilton in the past and we’re pretty confident that we’ll be in a competitive position this weekend.”

The 2012 V8 Supercars calendar has received a shake-up.

Speedcafe.com wrote:
Speedcafe.com understands that Winton’s event will be moved from August to November, becoming the new penultimate event.

It is unclear what track, if any, will replace Winton’s August date. Eastern Creek Raceway has been mooted as a possible venue for the August date, but this was denied by Eastern Creek’s management when contacted by Speedcafe.com.

The V8 Supercars Championship has not competed on the recently redesigned Eastern Creek since 2008.

The V8 Supercars conducted its ‘free-to-the-public’ pre-season test at Eastern Creek in 2011. Over 10,000 people visited the circuit for that one-day test.

The changes to the 2012 calendar come after V8 Supercars’ attempts to secure an off-shore event, coupled with the Abu Dhabi round, appear to have failed.

Confirmation of the revised 2012 calendar is expected to be announced on Sunday.

It would be great to have Eastern Creek back but moving Winton to November is not good. Only because it means I would not be able to got to it if it's on the 9-11th.

http://www.speedcafe.com/2012/05/03/engine-rule-changes-in-place-for-barbagallo/ wrote:

Engine rule changes in place for Barbagallo

V8 Supercars has moved to stamp-out complex fuel saving techniques by adding to its technical regulations in time for this weekend’s Trading Post Perth Challenge.

The category closely monitored the activities of its teams at the previous event in Hamilton following concern that the widespread push for increased fuel economy has the potential to drive up costs.

As previously explained by Speedcafe.com, several teams are understood to have been experimenting with the practice of varying fuel pressure to coincide with engine revs in order to save fuel under braking and part-throttle.

Methods for achieving such a goal include alternating between different fuel regulators and manipulating the operation of the fuel pumps.

In what is expected to be the first phase of the crackdown, switching between a maximum of two fuel pressure regulators now “must be the only method of controlling the fuel pressure to the engine,” while “no system however described is permitted to vary the fuel pressure from its nominal value during any session or race.”

The wording of the regulations should leave the fuel trim switch, which was introduced last year in order to discourage teams from devising their own methods of consumption adjustment, as the sole mechanical device for manipulating fuel burn rates mid-race.

While unchanged for Barbagallo, it is understood that the rules regarding the trim switch could be tightened for future races. Currently, the four pre-set trim switch positions must sit within a 20 percent window, with no minimum or maximum values defined.

Ford Performance Racing’s technical director Campbell Little, who is a member of V8 Supercars’ Engine Technical Advisory Panel, says that how the rules affect different teams will be something to look out for this weekend.

“It won’t affect us because it’s not a game we’ve been playing, but it’ll be interesting to see if others are affected by it,” Little told Speedcafe.com.

“I think with the end game in site, these rules are saving people from themselves in all honesty.”

Three 120km races will take place at Barbagallo this weekend.

IMO this;
Ford Performance Racing’s technical director Campbell Little, who is a member of V8 Supercars’ Engine Technical Advisory Panel

is a huge conflict of interest and he should stand down from his position on the panel.

No, not really - the sport is run by the members in it. And FPR would only be one of X members on the Engine Technical Advisory Panel.
T8 and HRT would have members in there too.

If they add this then all they need to do is fix the soft tyre, it should last 15 laps tops

Christian Klien confirmed as Russell Ingall’s co-driver

Christian Klien has signed to drive for Supercheap Auto Racing in this year’s V8 Supercar endurance races.

Klien will partner Russell Ingall in the #66 SCAR Commodore in the Sandown 500 (September 14-16) and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama (October 4-7) – the 50th anniversary of Australia’s Great Race.

The team made the announcement at its Walkinshaw Racing headquarters in Melbourne, where Klien met Ingall and was shown over his new Holden V8 racecar by the two-time Bathurst winner.

The former Formula 1 driver will drive the Supercheap Auto Racing Holden colours at Phillip Island tomorrow (Friday) when he takes part in the enduro co-driver sessions.

It will be Klien’s second drive of a Walkinshaw Racing Commodore, having tested Nick Percat’s Coates Hire entry in a secret test at Winton recently.

After racing at the Armor All Gold Coast 600, Klien is looking forward to get back into the V8 Supercars field.

“I am very excited with this opportunity, to be joining Supercheap Auto Racing and Russell Ingall for the biggest V8 Supercar races of the year is an honour,” Klien said.

“After the Gold Coast I was determined to come back and do more V8 races. It is a strong championship with extremely competitive racing, massive crowds and excellent TV coverage throughout the world.

“Mount Panorama is one of the world’s great circuits and the Bathurst 1000 is world-famous – it’s a must-do race in any racing driver’s career.

“To be able to take part in the 50th anniversary Bathurst with one of V8’s heroes is exciting – I can’t wait to get to the mountain in October.”

Mazda on a mission ---- Thats a link

My guess is we will see Moffat in a Mazda, DJR's move to a 4 car team would make sense if this is the case.

Subtract LDM from GRM and add to Tekno
Tekno (3, inc LDM)- Holden or Mercedes Benz Smile

Also there were talks of Hyundai going to SBR.

There go - i forgot about Teckno, thats all the cars covered though?
Every chance toyota pick up Teckno too, if mazda is going to join then toyota will, even if its with Lexus. It's very unlikely that the toyota morotsports blokes will let 2 of the biggest rivals race without them
