F1 2011 first impressions
Well, it is pretty much as expected, and upgrade to the 2010 version.
I have only played it so far for about an hour, and spent most of that time trying set up the wheel (Fanatec GT2) The force feedback is very heavy out of the box, and I have turned it to almost off. I am also using drift mode 3, just to try and make the wheel feel lighter, mode 4 just made it a bit too uncontrolable. I am still not happy with the wheel/game settings but will keep playing with them.
I can not seem to work out how to change views, I am using the one that puts you behind the driver. Would be nice to see what the in car view looks like. I have a feeling with the wheel you simply run out of buttons to change the view on the fly. I have remapped the look left/right to the fanantec's look left/right buttons, not that I really need that when stuck in the view I am in.
I think it is a big improvement with the menu system.
I am looking forward to the CoOp Career mode though, that should be fun watching clarkson test all the new parts.
The sound seems a bit umm... unrealistic for me, but I am playing it using the TV speakers.
Nice filler while I wait for Forza 4 and to give a break when FM4 does come out.
anyway, have some lunch then might start the single player career.
PS: I will move all other threads regarding F1 2011 to this folder that I have renamed from F1 2010 to Formula 1.

Yeah, I remember trying F1 2010 with the Fanatec wheel a few weeks ago and being amazed at how unbelievable shithouse it was. I tried a few different settings on the wheel but nothing fixed it. I'm thoroughly delighted to hear this one is the same...
Do you still randomly spin when you touch a curb at low speed? And can you now correct a slide without it spearing you in the opposite direction?

The handling is much better than 2010, just finished my first GP. I think I now have the wheel set up to my liking.
One thing Clarkson will be happy about... it still randomly freezes, but I dont think it is as bad. It does not freeze for any where near as long, just a split second, and only did it about 3 times during the practice/qualifying/race weekend.

I wonder if the CoOp career mode lets you play against other CoOp teams... That would be cool.

Re: F1 2011 first impressions
Wow. These cars are not for the faint of heart. Just had my first go last night. I decided I wanted to just launch into it with no assists at all. Glad I have, as the braking line for me seems to detract from the great atmosphere of the already, IMO stunning graghics.
Once I got my wheel feeling sort of OK ( still some fine tuning to go) the cars felt pretty good to drive. I liked the handling, and feel that with time you could settle into the car and start having more fun.
Also, learning new tracks combined with the speed of these machines is daunting but I think it might be rewarding in the end.
A bit concerned that I might be spreading myself too thin between this and Forza to really get comfortable with the shift in dynamics between the two, but for now it's a bit of a thrill to drive these cars.

yeah the cars feel MUCH deeper in the handling, and the way the bodywork moves around is more convincing. still a choppy framerate like 2010's but nothing serious. the cars look great but the environments have lost some detail. can't wait to see how it goes at the last chicane at Catalunya, the way it spun-out unconvincingly nearly everytime in 2010 is gone i hope. i'm still going to enjoy this i think, the physics feel a heap sweeter.
started my career with Lotus cause i'm a sucker for punishment

Yes, I took the tightarse option too!! Can't wait to get my hands on it though. Maybe we can organise some casual and/or serious racing once everyone has a copy and is up to speed with the controls etc!?!

Re: F1 2011 first impressions
The other thing I have done with the GT2 is remap the drs and kers buttons
Y = DRS
X = KERS
But may even swap them around yet and make KERS on the Y button, because I use that more.
maybe a little too much

Laugh, yep that tightarse option basically gets me every third game free when you compare to aussie prices of $90 and the limited edition copies often only cost $2 - $5 more compared to $20 - $30 more in oz. Works well given I quite often purchase games for my kids as well.
F1 2011 with turtlebeach x11's cost $105 delivered.

Yeah I now buy all my games from o/s (ozgameshop or zavvi) unless I go the 3-4-1 trade at JB. Although I did preorder FM4 at Mightyape cause I want it on release! Like you, I buy games for my kids too, so you gotta cut down the costs where you can!

playing this online is a good option as the AI is something they obviously didn't work on since 2010.

Re: F1 2011 first impressions
I can't stand racing online. I alway get punted off on the first or second corner by all the Vettel and Alonso wannabes
On another note, Dazz and I started co-op championship last night. Talk about fun with the different stratergies and having to save fuel which I didn't. Running out of fuel 3 corners from the end isn't fun
