Just played around with it this morning. Set at 90 degrees it looks a little strange but you can see a whole lot more of the cockpit. Anyone else drive with it on?

I used to have mine set to about 75 degrees i think... 90 degrees is a little bit odd, and you get the end of the drivers arms appearing.

FrankTank. You're right 75 degrees seems to work a lot better. You still get to see more of the screen and the mirrors but it doesn't look like you're driving into a black hole

I use a field of view of 48 degrees with a single 65 inch plasma at 1.5m from my eyes! (Yes, I know that is close) and now that I am used to it I will never go back.

Ok, here is what the different FOV settings look like in Forza 3. I tried to take the photos as close to my seating position and eye level as possible (the images have been cropped afterwards). My eyes are 1.5m from my TV when I play.

The car is a Pagani Zonda R.

The images below are the standard Forza 3 FOV (Top) and my 48 degree FOV (bottom).

The difference does not look that great between the standard view and my 48 degree FOV if you just look at the interior of the car, but look at the signage on the side of the track.

The screen shots are taken from exactly the same place on the track, the starting line of Le Mans.

Hood view for me. I do use in-car view when I buy a new car. Always nice to see the interior details. Then it is back to hood view for racing.

Does not matter what side the wheel is on in the car all I have to do is sit a little to the right with the hood view and I feel right at home. Only car I seem very comfortable inside of is the 05 Subaru STi (as it is almost identical to my Impreza).

Like you said D, there is a large rear-view mirror and there is little to nothing to block the view in front of you. Perfect for online play.

I have tried moving the view for the in-car but I found that I could not look around the cockpit with the right stick. made it hard when online as I could not see the other players beside me.

Don't even ask about 3rd person view... The day they mount the drivers seat 5-10m above and behind our real cars will be the day a choose that view. lol

I think im about there as well 80 - 85 degrees.
I love the cockpit view. i can see my whole rear view mirror in most cars and very limited view if i have a roll cage in. just like driving a real car.(sort of) it took me a while to get used to it but i cant go back now. id get all kinds of messed up. driver

Like I said before I used to have mine at 75... It just gives a heaps wider view.

I've got an extra couple of monitors now, all of them set at 65 at the moment. I might bring it back a bit though - because they haven't bothered displaying anything further back than the B-pillar in some cars. So in some situations it looks like the front end of the car is floating with no rear end attached.

I Think ive got mine at 90? - its as far back as you can go. You can see the front corners of the car, your drivers mirror and i use the interior standard mirror - Works well for close racing

Further developments in my field of view experiments...

I have moved even closer to my TV. I now sit about 52 inches from my 65 inch Plasma (yes I feel like I am getting a tan!).

I have also increased the FoV angle to 59 degrees.

I found 48 to be far too restrictive when trying to negotiate tight hairpin corners. Changing the FoV to 59 degrees has given me a little more peripheral vision which makes taking those tight corners easier.

I took a photo from my new seating position so it is a little closer than the other images.

59 degrees

48 degrees

Default in-car

What I find interesting is that although the FoV of within the car (as in how much of the cockpit I can see) has obviously changed, the FoV outside the car does not appear to have changed much at all. Look at some of the signs (or grandstands) and how they line up with the top of the steering wheel for example. Now compare this to how exaggerated the zoom is for the 'default' in-car view.
