Fanatec Sequential Shifter Mod
So there you are, nice new Fanatec race wheel, clubsport pedals and gear levers to match.
You assemble the gear on the race rig with the sequential shifter and jump in for a drive.
3-2-1 START! Wheelspin off the line and rip the shifter back to grab 2nd. WRONG, you get reverse and cook the tyres with massive lockup and decelleration.
WTF?
If this happened to you, its probably because you expected to pull the sequential shifter back for up shifts and push forward for downshifts.
The problem is Fanatec thought it should be the other way around.
OK, easy fixed. Reverse the up/down shift setting in game (we can in FM3 anyway), problem solved. Until the next time we use the paddle shifters which are now reversed as well. Grrrrr.
The good news is - I've found the solution for this problem.
The sequential shifter can be modified to work the way we expected it would in the first place.
Its an easy change and can be undone if necessary.
All you need is about 10 minutes and the ability to use a screwdriver.
Heres how...
Step 1.
Lay the shifter on its right side, so the screws holding the casing together are visible.
Remove the 3 phillips head screws that hold the casing together.
Remove the top of the casing. All the internals should stay in the other half, theres nothing loose that will fall out.
This is what you will see inside.
The parts circled in red are the shifter contact switches that perform the up and down shifts.

Step 2.
Remove the Shift lever from the casing.
You can now see how the wires connect to the switches.

Step 3.
The switches are a light press fit in the casing.
Carefully remove the switches by prising them out from behind. I used a small screwdriver.
TAKE CARE TO AVOID PRESSING WHERE THE WIRES ARE ATTACHED TO THE SWITCHES.
It could cause damage to the wiring or switch terminals.

Step 4.
Untwist the connecting wires and press the switches in the casing in the opposite position that you took them from.
MAKE SURE THERE IS SOME SLACK IN THE WIRES - THEY SHOULD NOT BE PULLED TIGHT.

Step 5.
Replace the shift lever into the casing, check that it works ok and is not pulling on the wires.
Replace the left side of the casing and put the screws back in.
Job done!
Your sequential shifter now works pull/push on upshift/downshift, without having to reverse the game shift setting.

Re: Fanatec Sequential Shifter Mod
Great write up wolf, I will be doing this today.
I have in the past used the game settings, but as you say it turns the paddles around too... grrr. I have been trying to drive with the paddles up/right and down/left, but this just feels wrong.
So thanks mate, this is one mod I will be doing.

Yeah I reckon it would be handy for many Fanatec users who use the paddles and sequential shifters - including our members.
It may be tucked away on another forum somewhere, but I've never heard of or seen anything else posted on the net about this mod before - from anyone.
